St Nicks Botanica is looking for an art teacher to work with small groups of children aged three to five in a dedicated studio, inspired by Reggio Emilia and the hundred languages of children. Art is seen as one of the many ways children make sense of the world and share their ideas.
Key responsibilities
Offer experiences in drawing, painting and printmaking, as well as 3D work with clay, wire and found materials
Explore collage and layering, Gelli-Printing, specialty paints, texture, colour, light and shadow
Listen closely to children's questions, observations and theories and use these as starting points for projects that grow over time
Help children revisit ideas, try new techniques and extend their learning
Document and showcase children's words, ideas and creative processes
Bring your own artistic interests and expertise to the role
About you
An artist or early childhood educator with a robust art practice
A current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration is required
An early childhood education qualification is ideal, though if you don't hold one, the organisation can support you to study a Certificate III while working
A six-week handover with the current studio art teacher to learn about the studio space, its materials and resources, and how to develop art experiences with children
Creative freedom to bring your own artistic interests and expertise to the role
