Delivering projects ranging from $10M to $150M across education, aged care, apartments, health, retail, recreation and social infrastructure, the business has an exciting pipeline of major projects ahead.

Due to continued growth and upcoming project opportunities, they are looking to appoint a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager to join their team and play a key role in the early stages of major commercial developments.

The Role:

Reporting to the Recent Business Manager, you will play a key role in managing the design process during the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase of major commercial construction projects.

Initially office-based, you will work closely with internal teams, consultants, architects and other key stakeholders to coordinate design development, manage design risks and help establish a clear pathway from early planning through to construction. Initially, the role will be 100% office-based during the ECI phase, working closely with the pre-contracts and design teams. Once projects move into construction, you will transition to a combination of office and site-based work, including regular site visits as required.

The role will provide exposure to major projects valued at circa $100M+, including aged care, apartment and student accommodation developments.

This is an opportunity to influence projects from the outset, contribute to design and constructability outcomes, and work alongside an established team comprising Design Managers, BIM and digital specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and coordinate the design process throughout the ECI phase
- Manage design consultants, architects and other key stakeholders




- Review design documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements, budgets and programme
- Identify design risks, buildability issues and opportunities for value engineering
- Collaborate with estimating, construction and pre-contracts teams to support project planning
- Coordinate design reviews and ensure design deliverables meet project milestones
- Assist in developing practical, cost-effective design solutions
- Support the transition from ECI into construction

Key Requirements:

- Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager within commercial construction
- Main contractor experience is essential working on large-scale commercial projects
- Strong understanding of design management processes within a construction environment
- Experience managing design consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
- Strong knowledge of design development, buildability, value engineering and constructability
- Aged care, apartment, residential high-rise or student accommodation experience will be highly regarded as well as façade experience, particularly on complex projects
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and coordination skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in construction, architecture, engineering or a related discipline are desirable
