About Us
Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin, delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed and grounded in lived experience. Our service model is shaped by the voices of young people and their communities and underpinned by a commitment to safety, equity, inclusion and continuous learning. At PYMHWS,

we are working with our community and partners to build a future where all young people can access high-quality mental health care that recognises their individual strengths, identities, relationships and communities. As we continue to grow, we are looking for passionate, skilled and visionary professionals to join us in shaping a recent era of youth mental health care in Victoria. The Opportunity The Multicultural and Multifaith Senior Mental Health Clinician is a specialist senior clinical position within the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS). Custodial FYMHS provides specialist multidisciplinary mental health assessment, treatment, consultation, care coordination and transition support to young people within Victoria’s youth justice custodial system. Young people involved in the youth justice system come from diverse cultural, linguistic, religious and spiritual backgrounds. Their experiences of mental health, help-seeking, family, identity, trauma, justice involvement and recovery may be shaped by culture, faith, migration and settlement experiences, experiences of racism and discrimination, family and community relationships, and connection to culture and belonging. This newly established role will strengthen FYMHS’ capacity to understand and respond to these experiences and ensure culturally safe and responsive practice is embedded within mental health assessment, risk assessment, formulation, treatment, recovery planning, multidisciplinary decision-making and transition from custody.

Working as both a senior clinician and specialist practice resource, you will provide direct clinical care while strengthening the capability of clinicians, multidisciplinary teams and the broader service to deliver culturally safe and responsive care. You will use specialist cultural knowledge, community perspectives and advanced clinical expertise to influence individual care, multidisciplinary formulation and decision-making, transition planning, workforce capability and broader service development. The role will also support stronger connections between FYMHS, families, community organisations, cultural and faith-based services and other relevant supports, helping to promote continuity of care and culturally responsive transition and reintegration planning for young people moving from custody back into the community. About You You are an experienced senior mental health clinician who combines strong clinical expertise with a demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, equitable and person-centred mental health care. You are curious and reflective in your practice and recognise that cultural identity is individual, dynamic and intersectional. You are comfortable having thoughtful conversations about culture, faith, spirituality, identity, family, racism, discrimination and belonging and can support other clinicians and teams to develop confidence and capability in doing the same. You will bring:
- Professional qualification as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, with relevant registration and/or professional eligibility requirements.
- Eligibility for appointment at RPN Grade 4 / Grade 4 Occupational Therapist / Social Worker or Grade 3 Psychologist, as applicable.
- At least 5 years’ releva
