Currently on the market for an Infrastructure Architect to join one of our largest clients within the retail industry for an initial 6 month contract, located in Adelaide.
About the Role
Lead the architecture and strategic evolution of enterprise datacenter and hybrid hosting technologies across the organizations group of business. Being part of the translate business, application and operational requirements into secure, resilient, scalable and cost-effective infrastructure platforms supporting corporate, retail and refinery environments.
The role will be responsible for defining target-state architectures, technology standards and multi-year lifecycle roadmaps, and provide design governance from concept through implementation and operational handover.
The role is also accountable for the quality and integrity of datacenter designs, their alignment with enterprise strategy and standards, and the evidence used to assess security, availability, recoverability, performance, capacity, supportability and whole-of-life cost.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop current-state assessments, target-state architectures and rolling three-to-five-year datacenter, hosting and infrastructure roadmaps aligned with business strategy, application demand and investment priorities.
- Own and maintain architecture principles, reference architectures, reusable patterns and technology lifecycle standards for datacenter compute, virtualisation, storage, backup, recovery and management platforms.
- Identify technical debt, unsupported infrastructure, capacity constraints, resilience gaps,
security exposures and opportunities for standardisation, consolidation, automation and platform simplification.
- Prepare options papers, high-level and detailed designs, architecture decision records and business-case inputs that clearly explain trade-offs, dependencies, risks, migration impacts and whole-of-life costs.
- Design and govern enterprise datacenter platforms across physical infrastructure, virtualisation, hyperconverged infrastructure, server operating systems, storage, backup, recovery, management tooling and supporting services.
- Ensure designs recognise corporate, retail and refinery operating constraints, including IT/OT separation, controlled change, continuous operations and site-specific availability requirements.
- Plan infrastructure refreshes, platform migrations, datacenter consolidation and technology transitions, including discovery, dependency mapping, sequencing, coexistence, rollback and decommissioning.
- Define migration and cutover approaches that protect service availability, data integrity, recoverability and operational continuity.
About You:
- Substantial enterprise infrastructure experience, including demonstrated architecture accountability for datacenter, hosting and hybrid infrastructure environments.
Equivalent depth of experience will be considered.
- Proven delivery of resilient datacenter platforms, infrastructure refreshes, virtualisation or hyperconverged solutions, storage, backup, disaster recovery and migration initiatives within complex, multi-site organisations.
- Robust practical knowledge of enterprise server hardware, Windows Server and Linux hosting, virtualisation platforms, storage technologies, backup and recovery, infrastructure management and monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to design across compute, storage, virtualisation, networking, security, facilities, backup, disaster recovery, service management and cloud integration domains.
- Experience defining capacity, availability, performance, recovery and operational requirements for business-critical infrastructure services..
- Experience with VMware, Microsoft, Nutanix, Dell Technologies, HPE, Cisco or equivalent enterprise datacenter technologies, without dependency on a single vendor platform.
- Ability to design secure, scalable, resilient and highly available datacenter and hybrid hosting solutions across enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Deep knowledge of compute, virtualisation, hyperconverged infrastructure, storage, backup, replication, disaster recovery and infrastructure management technologies.
- Experience in energy, retail, industrial or other environments requiring continuous operations, including awareness of IT/OT separation, operational resilience and controlled change would be highly preferred
