IT Systems & Electronic Security Technician
Fortis Security | Perth, Western Australia | Full-time Put your IT skills to work in electronic security.
Fortis Security is looking for someone with a solid understanding of IT who enjoys troubleshooting, learning new systems and working directly with customers.
This role combines office-based technical work with onsite commissioning and support. You’ll work with enterprise security software, Windows servers, networks and integrated electronic security systems.
We welcome experienced IT professionals looking to specialise in electronic security, as well as junior IT professionals and technically minded applicants ready to develop their skills. Previous electronic security experience is highly regarded but not essential.
About Fortis Security
Fortis Security designs, installs, commissions and maintains CCTV, access control, intercom, alarm and integrated security systems for commercial, government, logistics and critical infrastructure clients across Australia.
Our work brings together enterprise software, servers, networking, cloud technologies and physical security equipment.
About the Role
Working alongside experienced technicians, engineers and technical specialists, you’ll help configure, commission, support and troubleshoot customer systems.
Your time will be split between office-based configuration and remote support, and attending customer sites across Western Australia, depending on project and service requirements.
The focus is technical systems support: software, networking, servers, integration and fault-finding, rather than traditional installation and cabling work.
- For experienced IT professionals: Apply your systems administration, networking, support or infrastructure experience to electronic security, with opportunities to progressively take ownership of technical projects and customer systems.
- For earlier-career applicants:
Build on your IT fundamentals with training and support from our technical team as you develop electronic security knowledge and practical commissioning and troubleshooting skills.
What You’ll Do
- Install, configure and support enterprise CCTV, access control and integrated security management software.
- Configure and troubleshoot Windows servers, workstations, recording servers and network-connected security devices.
- Investigate hardware, software, networking, integration and system performance issues, remotely and onsite.
- Commission and test systems to confirm they meet operational requirements.
- Assist with software updates, upgrades, migrations, configuration changes and preventative maintenance.
- Work alongside installation teams to ensure systems are configured and operating correctly.
- Prepare technical documentation, service reports and system configuration records.
- Keep customers informed about technical issues, progress and resolutions.
What We’re Looking For You don’t need to tick every box. We’re interested in your technical foundations, problem-solving approach and willingness to learn.
- Experience or knowledge in some of these areas would be helpful:
- IT support, systems administration or technical infrastructure.
- Windows operating systems, Windows Server and server administration.
- IP networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing and troubleshooting.
- Installing, configuring and supporting enterprise software.
- Diagnosing hardware, software and network faults.
- Virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Remote support, customer-facing technical service and documentation.
You’ll also bring:
- Strong analytical thinking and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- A genuine interest in technology and learning new systems.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach to customers.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and within a team.
- A willingness to undertake both office-based and onsite work.
- A current Australian driver’s licence.
If you’re earlier in your career, tell us about your IT studies, computer builds, home networks, server environments or other technical projects. Relevant practical knowledge doesn’t have to come only from paid employment. Licensing & Background Requirements The successful applicant must obtain a satisfactory National Police Certificate and meet the requirements for the appropriate Western Australian security licence.
An existing security licence is not required to apply. However, the appropriate licence must be obtained before undertaking duties that require it, and required licences and clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
Why Join Fortis Security?
- Variety: Combine office-based technical work, remote support and onsite customer service.
- Technical development: Learn from experienced technicians, engineers and specialists while developing expertise in enterprise security platforms.
- Interesting work: Solve technical problems across software, servers, networks and integrated hardware.
- Diverse environments: Support commercial, government, logistics and critical infrastructure customers.
- Career opportunities: Develop your skills in systems engineering, technical services, commissioning and integration.
