UTAS Stadium & Silverdome, Launceston TAS

Since 1984, Gema Group has been feeding and looking after crowds at some of Australia’s most memorable moments. From centre court at the Australian Open to trackside at the Formula One Grand Prix and Supercars Championship, our family-owned business has built its reputation on great food, genuine hospitality and teams who love what they do. Today we also operate across 18 venues in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and we’re still growing, now into Tasmania.

We’re looking for a Venue Manager to lead our catering operations across two of northern Tasmania’s most iconic venues: UTAS Stadium and the Silverdome.

About the Venues

UTAS Stadium sits within the Inveresk and York Park Precinct. It is the Tasmanian home of the Hawthorn Football Club and the Northern Bombers, the northern home of the Hobart Hurricanes, and host to a broad range of sporting and entertainment events. From 2028 it will also become the northern home ground for the Tasmania Devils as they enter the AFL and AFLW competitions.

The Silverdome is a multipurpose venue with capacity for up to 5,000 guests, set in the tranquil bushland of Kate Reid Reserve. It is the northern home of the Tasmania JackJumpers and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport, and it has the southern hemisphere’s first indoor velodrome. It hosts everything from concerts and exhibitions to conferences, meetings and training events.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for Gema’s catering operations across both venues. Each venue runs to a different rhythm, from packed AFL game days and JackJumpers fixtures to conferences, exhibitions and corporate functions. You’ll lead them all, making sure every service is delivered safely, profitably and to the Gema standard.

You’ll be a visible, hands-on leader who gives the team clear direction and handles complexity with ease, while building strong relationships with venue management, clubs, hirers and event organisers. You’ll balance tight commercial and labour management with a supportive leadership style that brings out the best in your people. With Tasmania’s sporting future growing fast, this is a rare chance to shape the hospitality experience at two venues on the rise.

Key Responsibilities

- Work with suppliers and internal procurement to manage stock, control waste and ensure compliance with supply agreements
- Maintain a strong, visible presence on event days to manage service flow, resolve challenges in real time and hold the standard
- Lead, mentor and develop managers, supervisors and frontline team members, building a cohesive,

high-performing “one-team” culture
- Lead onboarding, site inductions, training and ongoing development so every team member meets Gema standards from day one
- Take full ownership of food safety and hygiene programs, including temperature logs and audit readiness across all kitchens and outlets
- Ensure all compliance documentation, inductions, hazard logs and incident reports are complete and up to date
- Drive a proactive “see something, say something” safety culture across both venues
- Embed Gema’s Integrated Management System (IMS) across all operations, in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and take part in audits and continuous improvement

About You

- Proven experience in a senior catering operations role managing complex, multi-site or multi-outlet hospitality operations (stadium, events or venue experience highly regarded)
