The Organisation Our client is a large, well-established and highly successful not for profit organisation with a significant workforce and a strong presence across Australia.
With an experienced finance and payroll function, the business offers a professional, supportive and collaborative working environment.
Based in Melbourne's northern suburbs, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join an established team on a temporary basis, with the added benefit of hybrid working arrangements.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join this organisation on a temporary assignment, commencing around mid-November and anticipated to continue until late February or potentially March.
The position has become available to provide additional support during a period of planned employee absence.
Working alongside an experienced Payroll Manager and other members of the payroll team, your primary responsibility will be supporting the accurate and timely processing of a large and complex employee payroll.
The organisation operates both weekly and fortnightly payroll cycles, with multiple awards and employment conditions requiring careful interpretation.
Key responsibilities will include
- Supporting the accurate and timely processing of high-volume weekly and fortnightly payroll runs.
- Applying and interpreting multiple awards, enterprise agreements and relevant employment conditions.
- Reviewing timesheets, employee hours, allowances, overtime and other payroll-related information.
- Ensuring the accurate calculation and processing of wages, penalties, shift allowances and other payroll entitlements.
- Identifying and investigating payroll discrepancies, errors and variances.
- Responding to payroll-related queries from employees, managers and internal stakeholders.
- Working closely with other members of the payroll team to ensure all processing deadlines are met.
- Maintaining accurate payroll information and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal procedures.
- Supporting payroll reconciliations, reporting and general payroll administration as required.
- Contributing to the ongoing accuracy, efficiency and smooth operation of the payroll function.
Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer seeking the security of an assignment over the Christmas and summer holiday period.
- Secure a temporary assignment anticipated to run from mid-November through to at least late February.
- Enjoy continuity of employment across the traditionally quieter Christmas and January recruitment period.
- Join a large, established and financially stable organisation.
- Work within an experienced and supportive payroll team, with guidance from an established Payroll Manager.
- Focus predominantly on payroll processing rather than taking responsibility for the entire payroll function.
- Gain exposure to a large and complex payroll environment, involving multiple awards and employment conditions.
- Enjoy hybrid working arrangements, offering a combination of office-based and remote working.
- Convenient northern suburbs location, particularly attractive for candidates living in Melbourne's north.
- Work within a professional and collaborative environment where your experience will be genuinely valued.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer who has previously worked in a high-volume payroll environment and is confident processing complex payrolls involving multiple awards and employment conditions.
You will ideally demonstrate
- Previous experience working as a Payroll Officer within a medium to large organisation.
- Strong hands-on experience processing high-volume payrolls involving substantial employee numbers.
- Experience working as part of an established payroll team.
- Demonstrated experience processing weekly and/or fortnightly payroll cycles.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, compliance requirements and relevant employment entitlements.
- Excellent experience interpreting and applying multiple awards and/or enterprise agreements.
- Sound understanding of overtime, allowances, penalty rates and other complex payroll calculations.
- Confidence using payroll software and extracting, reviewing and processing employee payroll data.
- Good Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with large volumes of information.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to resolve payroll queries professionally and efficiently.
- A reliable, adaptable and team-oriented approach, with the ability to contribute effectively from the outset.
Importantly, we are looking for someone who is genuinely comfortable committing to the anticipated duration of the assignment, including the Christmas and January period. There will be some hours available to work in between Christmas and Recent Year.
Candidates must also be comfortable commuting to Melbourne's northern suburbs for the office-based component of the role.
If you are an experienced Payroll Officer looking to secure a rewarding temporary assignment within a supportive team, we would welcome your application.
