2 to 4 Years’ Experience | Melbourne CBD | Full Time, Permanent
We are looking for a commercial litigation lawyer with at least two years’ experience to join our highly respected legal practice in the CBD. Commercial litigators with some exposure to domestic building disputes would be ideal for this role.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a boutique and busy practice which is looking to grow. With a continuous flow of enquiries from existing clients, referrals and our significant presence on Google, you will be working across a range of commercial litigation and building dispute matters.
About us
Hendersons Legal is a boutique Melbourne CBD-based firm founded in 2001. We are a small firm dedicated to providing practical legal solutions to our clients across our diverse range of practice areas.
The work
You will work in a range of matters including acting in domestic building, owners corporation and commercial disputes at VCAT, the Magistrates Court, County Court, Supreme Court and Federal Court of Australia. We have recently acted in a matter that was heard in the Full Court of the High Court of Australia and is presently awaiting judgment.
This is a wide and varied role that will require quick thinking and an enthusiasm for problem solving. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to your own clients, as well as working alongside our senior lawyers on larger and more complex cases.
The role will include running your own files, direct client contact, strategy, drafting, correspondence, appearing at directions hearings and mediations, with a senior lawyer available when you need one.
Who you will learn from
You will report to the principal of the firm David Henderson and will work alongside Melissa Henderson, who was previously chief executive of a large building company. She knows this industry from inside it as well as from the law, which is not something you will find at most firms.
The successful applicant will have
- At least two years’ post-admission experience in commercial litigation, ideally with exposure to domestic or commercial building disputes.
- Admission to practise in Victoria and a current practising certificate.
- Proficient writing and drafting skills: pleadings, submissions, advice and correspondence.
- Some experience in appearing at directions hearings and mediations.
- A curiosity and willingness to learn and keep up to date with the ever-changing laws and procedures pertaining to all aspects of your work.
What we offer
- A competitive salary package, depending on experience.
- Law Institute of Victoria membership and your CPD paid by the firm.
- Career progression and mentoring, with a formal review at twelve months and a straight answer about what progression looks like.
- Your own clients and your own files from the start, not a support role on somebody else’s matters.
- Immediate access to senior lawyers in a friendly office environment.
- A state-of-the-art practice management system incorporating the latest legal AI models.
We enjoy close working relationships with our clients and barristers and are dedicated to achieving excellence in all aspects of our practice. You will enjoy the perks of working in a friendly environment with a genuine work-life balance.
This is a unique and valuable role for the right candidate.
