Senior Business Analyst – GIS and Integrated Data Strategy

GISjobs Australia is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to support the delivery of an ArcGIS, Building Fabric and integrated data-management project for a major Australian university.

The role will work closely with the Project Manager, GIS Developers and university stakeholders to define requirements, business processes, data standards, governance arrangements and implementation priorities. It will suit a structured analyst who is comfortable working across business, spatial data, asset information and enterprise-system environments.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops and requirements sessions.
- Elicit, analyse, document and validate functional and non-functional requirements.
- Develop business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and a prioritised backlog.
- Document current-state and future-state processes, roles, responsibilities and information flows.
- Define the scope, use cases and acceptance criteria for a Building Fabric minimum viable product.
- Support development of data models, classifications, business rules and data-quality standards.
- Document data ownership, custodianship and stewardship arrangements.
- Develop source-to-target mappings, reconciliation requirements and exception-handling processes.
- Contribute to the Integrated Data Strategy, governance model and implementation roadmap.
- Coordinate business input into architecture, cyber security, privacy and legal reviews.
- Prepare business content for the end-to-end RFT documentation package.
- Maintain requirements traceability across design, development, testing and acceptance.
- Review test artefacts and support UAT,



business-process validation and defect triage.
- Prepare operating procedures, handover documentation and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Work collaboratively through Jira-managed Agile delivery cycles.

About you

You will ideally have

- Substantial experience as a Business Analyst on technology, data, GIS or asset-management projects.
- Robust requirements elicitation, workshop facilitation and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Experience producing business requirements, process maps, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Practical knowledge of data governance, ownership, stewardship, quality and metadata.
- Experience working with enterprise integrations and source-to-target data mapping.
- Strong analytical writing and documentation skills.
- Experience supporting testing, UAT, defect management and operational acceptance.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery and Jira or similar tools.
- The ability to work independently without relying on client BAU resources to prepare project deliverables.
- Experience in higher education, government, facilities, property, utilities or asset management would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, spatial data or Building Information Modelling would be highly regarded.
- Experience preparing procurement, tender or RFT documentation would be valuable.
