About the opportunity

Kadant Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to help secure the goods and services our business needs, build dependable supplier relationships and deliver value through well-managed purchasing decisions.

We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, organised and comfortable taking ownership of the procurement process—from understanding an internal requirement to negotiating terms and following through on delivery. Just as importantly, you will bring an approachable, collaborative working style and a strong record of professional integrity.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to cost management, supply reliability and the quality of service provided to internal teams.

Key responsibilities

Sourcing and supplier selection

- Work with internal stakeholders to understand specifications, budgets, delivery requirements and business priorities.
- Identify and assess suitable suppliers, considering quality, capability, cost, lead times and supply risk.
- Prepare and manage requests for quotations, compare proposals and make clear, evidence-based recommendations.
- Evaluate total cost of ownership rather than purchase price alone.

Negotiation and purchasing

- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules and other commercial conditions within delegated authority.
- Prepare and maintain purchase orders, ensuring appropriate approvals and accurate supporting documentation.

- Coordinate with relevant colleagues on contract terms, supplier onboarding and purchasing requirements.
- Follow up on orders and resolve delivery discrepancies, quality concerns and invoice queries with suppliers and internal teams.

Supplier relationships and performance

- Develop professional, constructive relationships with suppliers and service providers.
- Monitor supplier performance against agreed quality, delivery and service expectations.
- Address recurring issues and work with suppliers on practical improvements.
- Identify alternative sources of supply and escalate potential shortages or disruptions early.
- Cost control, reporting and compliance
- Analyse purchasing activity to identify savings, consolidation opportunities and process improvements.
- Track negotiated savings and other procurement outcomes using clear, consistent measures.
- Maintain accurate supplier information, purchasing records and audit documentation.
- Follow company procurement policies, approval limits and applicable legal and ethical requirements.
- Support responsible sourcing, confidentiality and appropriate management of conflicts of interest.

What you will bring

Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing, sourcing or a closely related supply chain role.

A strong record of reliable performance, sound purchasing decisions and productive supplier relationships.

Experience obtaining and evaluating quotations, negotiating commercial terms and managing purchase orders.

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and confidence working with pricing, budgets and purchasing data.

Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with suppliers, operational teams and other internal stakeholders.

An adaptable, considerate approach, with respect for different backgrounds,

perspectives and working styles.

Good judgement, professional integrity and the confidence to raise concerns when a purchase presents commercial or operational risk.

The organisation and accountability needed to manage competing priorities, whether working on site or from home.

Confidence using spreadsheets and procurement or enterprise resource planning systems.

Experience in an industrial, engineering or manufacturing environment would be advantageous. Qualifications in procurement, supply chain, business or a related field are welcome, as is equivalent practical experience. Relevant professional certification will also be regarded favourably.

Working arrangements and remuneration

Our preference is for this role to be performed in person at our Springvale location, supporting close coordination with colleagues and business operations. We are also open to discussing work-from-home arrangements where the responsibilities can be carried out effectively. Agreed on-site attendance and supplier visits may still be required.

The starting salary for permanent full time employment is AUD $121,000 per annum, plus applicable superannuation and statutory entitlements. Final remuneration will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and agreed responsibilities.

We will also consider a 12-month fixed-term employment contract or a genuine subcontract arrangement. Subcontract fees, deliverables and conditions will be negotiated separately and are not represented by the advertised employee salary.

How to apply

Please submit your current CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant procurement experience, key achievements and preferred engagement arrangement. We would welcome examples of supplier improvements, cost savings or purchasing challenges you have successfully managed.

Kadant Australia Pty Ltd welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed during the recruitment process.
