This is a senior, tax-focused role. You’ll be responsible for tax compliance and planning across a portfolio of individuals, small businesses and groups, with some smaller-end business accounting work.
You’ll also have the prospect to work alongside our CFOs, contributing tax insight to their client engagements and gaining exposure to strategic, higher-level advisory work.
The role starts as part time (3 days per week), with 2 days in our Geelong office and the rest remote. There’s scope for hours and responsibilities to grow with the firm.
What you’ll be doing
Tax
- Preparing and reviewing income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts and partnerships
- Managing BAS, IAS, FBT and other ATO lodgements
- Delivering proactive tax planning and year-end strategy for clients
- Advising on tax implications of structures, transactions and business decisions
- Handling ATO correspondence, reviews and queries
Business accounting
- Preparing financial statements for smaller businesses and entities
- Reviewing bookkeeping and reconciliations in cloud software
- Keeping clients on track with their compliance obligations
Working with our CFOs
- Providing tax input on CFO client engagements, from restructures to growth planning
- Assisting with forecasting, cash flow and tax modelling where tax is a key factor
- Collaborating on advisory work for larger, growing businesses
What you’ll bring
- CA or CPA qualified (or well progressed towards it)
- 7+ years’ experience in Australian public practice with a strong tax focus
- Solid technical knowledge across a range of entity types
- Confidence with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks and practice management software
- A proactive approach: you spot planning opportunities, not just lodgement deadlines
- Clear communication and the ability to explain tax matters simply
- Registered Tax Agent status is a bonus, but not essential
