About the Position

Buon Appetit is a busy, family-owned Italian restaurant located in the heart of Camden. We are seeking an experienced Prep Chef or Cook to join our kitchen team, focusing on the preparation of fresh, house-made sauces, gnocchi and other essential kitchen ingredients.

This position offers regular daytime shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, making it ideal for an experienced chef or cook seeking consistent work without evening or late-night shifts.

We are looking for someone who is organised, efficient, reliable and capable of working independently without constant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

- Preparing a variety of house-made Italian sauces, including:
- Boscaiola Sauce
- Traditional Bolognese
- Slow-Cooked Lamb Ragù
- Four Cheese Sauce
- Fresh Pesto
- Napoletana Sauce
- Other sauces and preparations as required
- Preparing fresh gnocchi and other house-made products.
- Completing general kitchen preparation duties.
- Following established recipes to maintain consistent flavour, quality and portion sizes.
- Managing daily preparation lists and meeting production requirements.
- Ensuring ingredients are correctly stored, labelled and rotated.
- Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Working efficiently and independently to complete tasks within allocated timeframes.

About You

Previous commercial cooking experience is essential.

The successful applicant must:





- Have previous experience working as a chef or cook in a commercial kitchen.
- Be confident preparing sauces, stocks and other ingredients from scratch.
- Have strong cooking fundamentals and a good understanding of food preparation techniques.
- Be capable of working independently without direct supervision.
- Be organised, self-motivated and capable of managing their own workload.
- Demonstrate consistency, attention to detail and pride in their work.
- Have a sound understanding of food safety and safe food handling practices.
- Be reliable, punctual and available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have existing commercial cooking skills and be confident taking responsibility for their assigned preparation duties.

Working Hours & Employment

- Casual and part-time positions available.
- Regular daytime shifts every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- No evening or night shifts required for this position.
- Additional shifts may be available for applicants seeking extra hours, including opportunities within our restaurant kitchen and Italian food truck operations.
- Additional shifts are optional and subject to operational requirements.
- Pay rates in accordance with the applicable Restaurant Industry Award, based on classification and experience.
