Lead WHSEQ across three growing WA businesses, with more acquisitions to come
Want to set the safety, environment and quality standard for a whole group, not just one site? Our client, a rapid-growing West Australian group, is appointing a Group WHSEQ Manager to lead work health, safety, environment and quality across its three operating businesses. You’ll report directly to the Managing Director and be based in Perth or Kalgoorlie.
About Our Client
Our client is a WA-owned group working mainly for the mining and resources sector across the Goldfields, Mid West and Perth. It has three businesses, each with its own risk profile:
- Controlled waste: collection, transport, pumping, treatment and disposal of liquid and solid waste
- Mine-site recycling: resource recovery, material handling, mobile plant and bins on customer sites
- Asset maintenance: workshop and field maintenance of the group’s fleet and plant
The group is growing through acquisition, and it needs one practical WHSEQ framework that works across all of it.
The Opportunity
This is the senior WHSEQ role in the group. You’ll be the principal adviser to the Managing Director and leadership team, with group-wide authority, including the authority to stop work where a risk is material. You’ll set consistent minimum standards while allowing for the different risks of controlled waste, recycling and maintenance, and you’ll lead WHSEQ due diligence and readiness for every new contract, facility and acquisition.
What’s On Offer
- Salary Package Negotiable
- Choice of base: Perth or Kalgoorlie, with regular travel to sites, workshops and mine sites
- Direct reporting to the Managing Director
- Genuine authority and scope to shape the group’s WHSEQ function and culture
- A front-row seat in a group growing through acquisition
- A family-friendly, supportive culture built on safety,
quality and growth
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and governance: develop the group WHSEQ strategy, standards and annual plans, and be a visible, field-focused leader
- Business-specific risk: oversee controls for controlled waste (liquid and solid), mine-site recycling, and maintenance hazards such as isolation, lifting, hot work and stored energy
- Compliance: make sure WA WHS, environmental, controlled waste and transport obligations, licences and customer requirements are met
- Risk and incidents: lead critical-risk management, field assurance and investigations into injuries, spills, vehicle incidents and near misses
- Environment and quality: maintain waste classification, tracking and disposal systems, spill and hydrocarbon controls, and quality of service delivery, aligned with ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 principles
- Audit and reporting: run a risk-based audit program, coordinate customer, regulator and certification audits, and give the MD a explicit WHSEQ dashboard
- Training and contractors: own induction, competency and VOC requirements, and set contractor prequalification standards
- Operational change: make sure WHSEQ risk is managed before new contracts, equipment, waste streams or acquisitions go live
- People: lead and develop the group’s WHSEQ resources and build safety ownership within operations
About You
You’re a practical, field-focused WHSEQ leader who’s as credible in a workshop or on a mine site as in the boardroom. You’re commercially aware,
calm under pressure, and confident challenging and escalating risk. You build ownership in operations rather than running safety as a stand-alone function.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification or diploma in WHS, environmental management, quality, risk or a related field
- Substantial WHSEQ leadership in multi-site industrial operations, such as waste, recycling, mining services, transport, maintenance or heavy industry
- Experience implementing practical WHSEQ systems across multiple sites or businesses
- Strong knowledge of WA WHS and environmental requirements, and of controlled waste obligations for liquid and solid waste
- Working knowledge of high-risk maintenance activities: isolation, stored energy, lifting, hot work and plant
- Strong capability in risk management, incident investigation, emergency response and audit
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence frontline workers, executives, customers and regulators
- Current C Class licence and willingness to travel regularly to remote sites
Preferred
- Lead or Internal Auditor qualification, and ICAM or RCA investigation training
- Experience with ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 systems and certification audits
- Experience with regulators, major mining clients and contractor prequalification systems
Why This Role?
