This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mental health leader to strengthen functional recovery support for young people experiencing early psychosis across Western Sydney & Nepean Blue Mountains, helping them build the skills, confidence and connections to participate in everyday life.

As Team Leader of the Functional Recovery Team (FRT), you’ll provide clinical and operational leadership to an established multidisciplinary team delivering targeted individual support and group programs.

You’ll lead a practical, strengths-based approach that helps young people work towards goals that matter to them: building daily routines and independent living skills, reconnecting with education or employment, strengthening relationships, exploring interests and participating in community life.

What you will do

- Lead the delivery of targeted, goal-focused functional recovery interventions through individual sessions, practical community-based support and group programs.
- Provide clinical and operational leadership, including direct line management, across clinical, allied health, vocational and peer support roles, supporting recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and culturally safe practice within each role’s scope.
- Oversee FRT referral pathways, allocation and workload planning so young people can access support matched to their functional recovery goals, identified barriers and the team’s scope.
- Guide cooperative assessment of everyday functioning and development of practical recovery goals with young people, translating these into strategies that build daily living skills, independence, social connections and participation in education, employment and meaningful activities.
- Oversee a varied group program shaped by young people’s interests and feedback, covering social and recreational participation, education and employment, personal development and creative expression.

- Work alongside CCT clinicians, young people, families and community partners to integrate functional recovery support into the broader care plan, maintain clear role boundaries and communicate changes or concerns to the treating team through established pathways.
- Provide supervision, mentoring and practice leadership appropriate to clinical and non-clinical roles, strengthening skills in functional recovery, collaborative goal setting and individual and group-based support.
- Maintain high-quality documentation and data, ensuring functional goals, interventions and progress are recorded clearly and outcomes reflect changes in everyday functioning, participation and young people’s experience of recovery.
- Contribute to clinical governance, incident reviews and quality improvement, using outcome data and feedback from young people and families to strengthen functional recovery services.

- Demonstrated experience supporting functional recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation, including helping young people overcome barriers to daily living, study, work and social participation.
- Skilled in collaborative functional assessment, practical goal setting and individual or group-based interventions, with sound judgement about scope of practice, risk and escalation to the treating team.
