Support Worker – Day Program Transport & Travel Training (Casual)
The term Euroa comes from an Aboriginal word meaning joyful. That is why Euroa Care fosters a safe place for people in need of joyful and high-quality care. We recognise the importance of celebrating individuals and responding to all people in a manner that is respectful, ethical, inclusive, and culturally appropriate. We believe that everyone has the right to participate in society, the right to feel safe, respected, and worthwhile.
Due to continuous growth, we are seeking a Support Worker for a casual role supporting two young NDIS participants. You’ll help them get where they need to go and build their independence along the way.
The role
You’ll provide regular support to two young clients across the week:
- Mondays and Tuesdays: Support a young man with morning and afternoon transport to and from his class. A key focus is travel training: helping him learn to use public transport confidently and safely, particularly trains.
- Tuesdays: Also support a young woman by picking her up from her cooking class and taking her home for her OT session.
- Every second Friday: Support the young woman with household tasks and daily activities, with time for enjoyable community activities. This shift also includes using public transport where needed and teaching her to travel on it confidently.
Why you will LOVE this role
- Competitive hourly rate
- Regular, predictable shifts
- Immediate start with complete orientation provided
- Ongoing professional training and support
- A supportive and well-rounded team
- A chance to make a lasting impact on people’s lives
What you’ll be doing
- Transport support: Safely transporting clients to and from their classes, home and community activities.
- Travel training: Teaching clients how to plan and take trips on public transport. This includes reading timetables, using a transport card,
finding their way around stations and platforms, staying safe on trains, and knowing what to do if plans change. You’ll gradually step back as their confidence and independence grow.
- Household and daily living support: Assisting with household tasks and daily activities to build independent living skills.
- Social and community participation: Encouraging both clients to engage socially and enjoy community activities.
- Behaviour support: Supporting clients in line with their Behaviour Support Plan, using positive and respectful strategies.
- Reporting: Keeping accurate shift notes and reporting any incidents or concerns to the team immediately.
About you
- Experience in disability support, ideally with young people or young adults (highly regarded)
- Experience supporting and following Behaviour Support Plans
- Experience with travel training or community access support is a plus
- Confident using public transport, particularly the train network
- Patient and encouraging, and able to support skill-building at each client’s own pace
- Reliable and punctual, and able to commit to all shift days (Mondays, Tuesdays and every second Friday)
- Valuable verbal and written communication skills, and able to work independently and report accurately to your supervisor
- Respectful of each person’s dignity, independence, cultural values and beliefs. Second language skills will be highly regarded.
- Reliable vehicle with valid registration and comprehensive insurance
- Valid Police Check, Working With Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check
