Want a job where no two days are the same?
EHS Assess is a specialist consulting company providing independent expert advice primarily to the insurance industry, as well as government and commercial clients. Our expertise is in disaster recovery for our clients following water damage, fire, illicit drug operations, chemical contamination and natural disasters. Our objectives are to protect health and mitigate loss from the outset, applying a scientific, evidence based approach of recognition, evaluation, recognition and control.
We're looking for an intelligent, adaptable and exceptionally organised person to join our team in a genuinely unusual role involving complex investigations, specialised equipment, interesting locations and the development of expertise in highly specialised fields.
The Role
Approximately 60% fieldwork and travel and 40% reporting and analysis, with genuine flexibility and autonomy.
You'll conduct investigations, assess risks, gather evidence, solve problems, work with clients and prepare technical reports.
Travel is a core requirement. You'll routinely travel throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria, across Australia and potentially internationally. If you're unable or unwilling to travel, this isn't the role for you as our work and expectations of our clients is local, statewide and beyond.
The upside? You'll visit places most people never see and meet people from all walks of life.
What We're Looking For
- A STEM degree or equivalent background, including incomplete degrees.
- A strong interest in biology and microbiology.
- Exceptional initiative and ability to work autonomously.
- Outstanding organisation and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to deal calmly with challenging or volatile people and situations.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- A positive, adaptable, can-do attitude.
- The ability to learn quickly and respond to changing demands.
- A current driver's licence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Highly desirable:
- A background in biology, microbiology, chemistry or engineering.
- Knowledge of or experience in building and construction.
- Knowledge of or experience in risk assessment and management.
- Experience writing technical reports.
This is a highly specialised and relatively current field, and much of your technical training will be provided on the job.
What matters most is a strong desire to learn, the ability to question assumptions and the confidence to approach unfamiliar problems with a practical mindset: “Right, let's work this out.”
The Lifestyle
Our workload can vary considerably, making excellent organisation and time management essential.
Our usual working window is approximately 7 am–5 pm on weekdays, with flexibility around when you complete your eight-hour day, whether in the field, at home or in the office. Once established, the role will rarely exceed 40 hours per week. Our culture is our success.
Reporting can be completed from our office, home or, within reason, wherever you choose.
You'll enjoy considerable autonomy, genuine flexibility and the support needed to develop your expertise and make the role your own.
What You'll Get
- A varied and intellectually stimulating career.
- Extensive travel throughout Australia and potentially beyond.
- Genuine autonomy and hybrid working.
- Specialist on-the-job training and career development.
- Exposure to unusual and challenging investigations.
- The opportunity to work alongside recognised experts.
- The chance to discover places, businesses and environments most people never encounter.
