The Role We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to lead the deployment, configuration, optimisation and ongoing support of PostgreSQL database clusters within a National Security customer environment. This is a hands-on technical role covering the full database lifecycle, from initial implementation and migration through to ongoing operational support and sustainment. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining highly available PostgreSQL environments, implementing backup and disaster recovery capabilities, monitoring and optimising database performance, and supporting patching, upgrades and lifecycle management. Working closely with DevOps engineers and technical specialists, you will also contribute to the automation of database deployment and operational processes within a secure, mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, configure, deploy and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL database clusters.
• Implement and support high availability, backup, recovery and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Monitor database health and performance and proactively optimise PostgreSQL environments.
• Support database migrations, patching, upgrades and ongoing lifecycle management.




• Troubleshoot database and platform issues and participate in incident management activities.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation and supporting artefacts.
• Work closely with DevOps engineers to automate database deployment and operational processes.
• Support PostgreSQL environments through implementation into long-term operational sustainment.
• Contribute to database reliability, optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Need
• Strong hands-on PostgreSQL database administration experience within enterprise environments.
• Experience designing, deploying and managing highly available PostgreSQL clusters.
• Solid knowledge of database performance monitoring, tuning and optimisation.
• Experience implementing database backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience with PostgreSQL patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of data engineering concepts and database optimisation techniques.
• Experience supporting secure, highly available and mission-critical environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and technical documentation skills. Preferred Skills
• Experience with database deployment and operational automation.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar technologies.
• Understanding of GitOps practices and modern deployment methodologies.
• Experience working alongside DevOps and platform engineering teams.
• Experience working within secure government or National Security environments.
• Experience supporting database platforms through implementation, migration and long-term sustainment.
