Join the Wild Side — We’re Hiring a Volunteer Coordinator!
Zoos SA is a not-for-profit conservation charity that exists to save species from extinction and connect people with nature. As one of the largest open range zoos in the world, spanning more than 1,500 hectares of fauna and flora, we're excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park, the largest safari park that will exist outside of Africa and a rare and exciting project, the construction of an elephant habitat!
We're also excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park with a first-of-its-kind luxury resort, luxury tents and lodge facilities. In May 2025 Monarto Safari Park began offering longer visits and a range of new and wild safari experiences in an area known as Wild Africa including incredible tours through herds of roaming animals.
Are you passionate about supporting volunteers and creating meaningful, safe and engaging experiences? Zoos SA is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Volunteer Coordinator to support our valued volunteers at Monarto Safari Park.
In this hands-on role, you will coordinate, support and engage volunteers in their day-to-day roles, ensuring they feel welcomed, valued and equipped to contribute positively to visitor experiences and conservation outcomes. This role balances strong face-to-face engagement with administration, compliance and collaboration across teams.
ABOUT THE ROLE...
As Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting volunteer operations, workplace health and safety, training and compliance. You will work closely with volunteers and staff to ensure volunteer roles are safe, purposeful, engaging and aligned with organisational needs.
A key component of this role is visible, on-the-ground support—providing coaching, acknowledgement and guidance—while also managing records,
rosters and communications as part of a broader volunteer and site team.
This is a 0.8FTE permanent part-time position with the potential to become permanent full-time. The role works across a seven-day roster, including some weekends if required for which applicable penalties apply.

- Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks to a high standard.

- Work in accordance with Zoos SA policies, procedures and values.
- Support volunteer performance assessment and related administration.
- Provide performance coaching to volunteers or escalate matters to the Manager as required.
- Assist with broader site or organisational volunteer administration when needed.
- Communicate clearly through established systems to ensure volunteers receive timely updates.
- Liaise with Zoo staff to ensure volunteer roles are safe, engaging and operationally effective.
- Make recommendations to enhance volunteer programs, roles and support mechanisms.
- Liaise regularly with the Manager, Volunteer Program on milestones, challenges and outcomes.
- Support communication with volunteers regarding operational changes and organisational impacts.
- Work consistently in line with workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
ABOUT YOU...
You are an approachable, organised and people-focused professional who enjoys supporting others to succeed. You are comfortable balancing operational demands with administration and thrive in a dynamic, visitor-focused setting.
