A major automation project. A complex steelwork challenge. A structure you'll help bring to life.
SSI SCHAEFER’s ALDI project at Bradfield, Western Sydney, is a major undertaking in warehouse automation. The scale of the facility, the complexity of its systems and the coordination required to deliver it make this a substantial opportunity for an experienced steelwork project manager.
Steelwork provides the structural foundation for this complex automated warehouse. Delivering it takes someone who understands how engineering, fabrication, logistics and installation fit together - and can keep each moving towards the same milestones.
We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong steelwork delivery background to lead this scope, from engineering coordination and fabrication through to installation, acceptance and handover.
As part of the site management team, you’ll lead steelwork supervisors across multiple installation fronts and work with local and international specialists to bring the structure together. Your decisions on sequencing, resources and delivery will help create the conditions for the automation installation and commissioning that follow.
The chance
Your focus will include:
- Planning steelwork delivery so engineering, fabrication and material availability support the installation sequence.
- Leading Steelwork Installation Site Supervisors across concurrent work fronts, with clear priorities and effective support.
- Coordinating interfaces with building works, other contractors and automated warehouse equipment.
- Managing progress, costs, risks and changes, resolving constraints and keeping the wider project team informed.
- Embedding safety and quality into planning and delivery, through to inspection, acceptance and handover.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Project Manager, Senior Site Manager and Project WHS&E; Manager, contributing steelwork expertise to decisions that affect the wider project.
What you’ll bring
You understand steelwork fabrication and erection, know how installation sequencing affects delivery, and can work through technical issues with engineering specialists.
We’re looking for:
- Experience managing steelwork from engineering and fabrication through to installation and handover.
- Confidence leading site supervisors and managing specialist installation subcontractors.
- Strong planning and commercial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, variations and contractor performance.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications and coordinate practical solutions.
- A sound understanding of Australian construction safety requirements and high-risk steelwork activities.
- Clear communication, practical judgement and the ability to coordinate people across disciplines and locations.
Experience in high-bay warehousing, automated logistics or material handling projects would be invaluable. Relevant technical or tertiary qualifications - or an equivalent combination of technical qualifications and substantial steelwork project management experience - are required.
Working on the project
The role is based at the ALDI project site in Bradfield, with continuous on-site presence throughout steelwork installation. Some work outside normal business hours may be required to support critical activities, and travel may be needed for training or project coordination.
