About Us
The City of Marion is located in Adelaide's south-western suburbs, approximately 10 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD.
Environmental sustainability is a key priority for council, and our Environmental Sustainability team works across the organisation and with the community to deliver a range of environmental programs and initiatives.
Council supports a network of community gardens managed by local community groups and volunteers. These gardens provide opportunities for community participation, environmental stewardship and connection with nature.
An opportunity has arisen for a Community Gardens Coordinator to join our Environmental Sustainability team on a short-term, part-time contract, supporting the continued delivery of our established community gardens program.
About the Role
As Community Gardens Coordinator, you will work closely with community and volunteer groups to support the ongoing operation of community gardens across the City of Marion.
The role involves maintaining positive relationships with existing groups, coordinating current projects and activities, and ensuring that community garden arrangements are managed in accordance with council's established policies, procedures and agreements.
You will work collaboratively with staff across council to coordinate project activities, progress approvals, maintain records and respond to enquiries from community groups.
With several projects already underway, we are seeking someone who can quickly become familiar with existing arrangements, manage competing priorities and provide continuity of service throughout the contract period.
About You
To be successful in this position, you will have demonstrated experience working with community groups,
volunteers or community-based programs, together with strong organisational and project coordination skills.
You will be a confident communicator who can build positive working relationships with a diverse range of people and navigate sensitive or complex matters with professionalism and sound judgement.
You will be comfortable working within established policies and procedures, managing competing priorities and recognising when matters require further advice or approval.
Experience working in local government or a similar organisation, particularly in community development, engagement or program coordination, will be highly regarded.
While an understanding of community gardening and environmental sustainability would be beneficial, specific experience in community gardens is not essential.
You will also need a current driver's licence and be able to obtain a satisfactory Working with Children Check.
Why Work with Us
This is an opportunity to contribute to an established community program and support the ongoing work of local volunteers and community groups.
You will join a collaborative Environmental Sustainability team and work with colleagues across council to support the effective delivery of existing community garden projects.
The part-time contract offers varied work, opportunities to engage directly with the community and access to council's employee advantages, including flexible working arrangements and health and wellbeing programs.
