Join a highly regarded, purpose-driven organisation that plays a vital role in keeping Australians safe across the nation's rail networks.

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is seeking an experienced Risk and Compliance Partner to strengthen enterprise risk management, control oversight and compliance practices across the organisation.

This is an opportunity for a proactive risk professional who enjoys working collaboratively with stakeholders, translating risk frameworks into practical processes and driving continuous improvement.

With a strong focus on enterprise risk management, you will take ownership of established frameworks and systems while supporting key initiatives that enhance risk awareness, accountability and decision-making across ONRSR.

Impact of the organisation

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is the independent statutory body responsible for national rail safety. Headquartered in Adelaide and with offices across Australia, ONRSR is committed to promoting and improving rail safety.

ONRSR’s culture is purposeful, inclusive and collaborative, where people are empowered to bring their authentic best selves to work. Through targeted, risk-based regulation and the sharing of insights, ONRSR contributes to safer rail networks and communities across Australia.

Impact you will have in this role

Working within ONRSR's Governance and Risk function, you will partner with risk owners and senior managers to ensure organisational risks are effectively identified, assessed and managed.

A significant component of the position involves administering and further developing Protecht, ONRSR's risk and compliance platform, including improving its functionality and adoption across the organisation.

You will also play a key role in managing ONRSR’s focus on work health and safety and psychosocial safety risk management alongside enterprise risk management and business continuity planning.

Key priorities currently include implementing a robust controls testing and attestation approach, enhancing organisational risk reporting and strengthening the application of risk management practices across ONRSR.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain and improve ONRSR's enterprise risk management framework,

risk appetite statement and strategic and divisional risk registers.
- Work closely with risk owners to facilitate risk reviews, assess controls and promote consistent risk management practices.
- Develop and implement improvements to organisational controls testing and risk assessment processes.
- Prepare risk reports and governance papers, and provide secretariat support to ONRSR's Risk Committee, including coordinating meetings and monitoring agreed actions.
- Administer and enhance the Protecht platform, including system configuration, user support and the development of enterprise risk and WHS modules.
- Chair the national WHS Working Group and work with internal stakeholders and external specialists to strengthen WHS policies and compliance practices.
- Provide advice and guidance on WHS and psychosocial safety compliance obligations in line with jurisdictional legislative requirements.
- Support the review, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the business continuity framework.
- Identify opportunities to improve risk systems, reporting and organisational processes.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for an experienced enterprise risk professional who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication skills, sound judgement and a practical, hands-on approach.

You will bring:

- Strong demonstrated experience in enterprise risk management, including developing, maintaining or improving risk frameworks within a complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of risk appetite, risk assessment methodologies, strategic risk registers and control frameworks.
- Experience working with enterprise risk management or governance, risk and compliance (GRC) systems, including supporting their administration, development and organisational adoption. Experience with Protecht or a comparable platform will be highly regarded.
- Expertise in WHS and psychosocial safety compliance and risk management is essential.
- Experience engaging with risk owners and influencing effective risk management practices across different business functions.
- Proven ability to prepare clear, high-quality risk reports, governance papers and recommendations for senior stakeholders or committees.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with senior executives and stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of both established processes and improvement initiatives.

Benefits of Working with ONRSR

Joining ONRSR offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a nationally significant organisation while enjoying a supportive, team-oriented and flexible working environment.

You will benefit from:

- The opportunity to influence enterprise risk management practices, drive improvements and contribute to organisational governance and resilience.
- A varied and autonomous role, working closely with senior leaders and executives across the organisation.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
- An additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas period.
- The ability to access annual leave at half pay.
- Annual salary increases in accordance with the ONRSR Enterprise Agreement 2025–2029.
- 16 to 18 weeks of paid parental leave, depending on length of service.
