About The Firm
A growing Melbourne law firm with a strong client base, focused on delivering exceptional service and commercial outcomes.
The firm has a broad commercial practice spanning finance, litigation, insolvency, conveyancing and general commercial law, with matters across all Australian jurisdictions.
About The Role
This is a senior appointment with a genuine leadership role. You will have responsibility for the practice group, its key client relationships and deliverables. The role would suit an established Partner or Special Counsel, or a Senior Associate already operating at that level.
What You'll Do
- Lead the Litigation, Recoveries & Insolvency practice group.
- Set strategy and oversee the conduct of all matters.
- Advise on secured and unsecured recovery matters, including mortgage enforcement, PPSR issues, and priority disputes.
- Advise on front-end lending and security matters, including mortgages, caveats and other lending and security documentation.
- Ensure that files are progressed efficiently and commercially in a fast-paced national portfolio.
- Lead and develop the lawyers in the group, shaping how the team works and grows
- Contribute to the growth of the practice through the development of existing client relationships and, where appropriate, the introduction of current clients and work.
What You'll Bring
- A substantial background in commercial litigation, with a demonstrated ability to lead significant and complex matters.
- Strong technical expertise, with significant experience in insolvency, recoveries and enforcement,
including exposure to mortgage enforcement, PPSR and priority disputes.
- Experience in leading and developing junior lawyers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proactive approach to progressing matters and keeping clients informed.
- The confidence and judgement to maintain strong client relationships.
- A background acting for lenders and insolvency practitioners would be particularly relevant.
The Opportunity
- Seniority, autonomy, but with an established client base.
- The opportunity and incentives to develop your own client relationships without the requirement to do so.
- A sweet spot between private practice and in-house; sitting close to the clients' commercial decisions, advising on strategy and direction.
- A strong work-life balance and real authority over how the practice group operates and develops.
- Competitive salary
