D’Arcy Weil is recruiting an Operations & Asset Manager, BESS on behalf of a major owner and developer of grid-scale batteries that is building the storage Australia’s energy transition depends on. The role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide and carries full accountability for the day-to-day and long-term performance of a utility-scale battery facility, including:

- Overseeing daily operations to sustain availability, reliability and efficiency
- Running battery, SCADA and energy management systems, and working with market participants, the market operator and network service providers
- Developing preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes, and managing service providers and equipment suppliers
- Preparing operating budgets, supporting capital forecasting and meeting contracted performance and revenue obligations
- Building a proactive safety culture and managing battery-specific risks such as thermal events and electrical hazards
- Leading the handover from construction and commissioning into full commercial operation





This is a rare chance to be the person who takes a major battery from the last day of construction to its first day of commercial operation, and sets the standards it runs to for decades.

The Role

- Operational performance: Oversee daily facility operations to sustain availability, reliability and efficiency, manage battery state of health and charge, SCADA, energy management and battery management systems, and coordinate with market participants, the market operator and network service providers
- Maintenance and asset integrity: Develop and run preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes, manage service providers, equipment suppliers and long-term service agreements, and maintain asset registers and critical spares
- Commercial and financial management: Prepare and manage operating budgets, support capital expenditure forecasting, identify cost improvements and make sure contracted performance and revenue obligations are met
- Safety and compliance: Build a proactive safety culture, make sure the asset meets workplace health and safety law, environmental approvals and critical infrastructure security obligations, and manage battery-specific risks including thermal events and electrical hazards
- Construction-to-operations transition: Lead the handover from construction and commissioning into commercial operation, and confirm operational readiness and a clean transfer of accountability from the project team

About You





- An electrically qualified engineer or technologist with substantial operations experience in energy, power, infrastructure or heavy industry
- Demonstrated leadership of assets carrying commercial risk, long-term service arrangements and accountability across safety, cost and programme
- Solid communication, with the credibility to manage complex technical disputes and senior stakeholder relationships
- Experience with lithium-ion battery technology, Australian wholesale electricity market operations and the National Electricity Rules advantageous
- Familiarity with asset management standards, SCADA platforms and maintenance management systems a strong advantage
