Lead a communications portfolio that shapes public confidence in Queensland's building regulator. Lead a high-impact communications function, shape how Queensland understands and engages with its building regulator and drive a new era of proactive communications, collaboration and performance As Queensland's independent building regulator, the QBCC plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, sustainable and trusted building sector. The QBCC is on a significant transformation journey, with a renewed focus on how it operates, engages with stakeholders and delivers on its regulatory responsibilities. This creates an important chance to strengthen the organisation's reputation, build understanding of its role and impact, and ensure its communications are proactive, purposeful and connected to the needs of the business and the community.

Reporting to the Head of Stakeholder Relations, this is a pivotal leadership opportunity to shape the future direction of the QBCC's communications, media and public relations, and ministerial and corporate advisory functions.

You will lead a team through organisational and cultural change, bringing people together around a clear vision, empowering managers and building a more integrated, business-partner-oriented approach. You will ensure communications actively build understanding, strengthen relationships and demonstrate the value the QBCC delivers to licensees, homeowners and the broader Queensland community.

You Will

- Lead transformation and cultural change, bringing people together through a period of change, establishing a clear direction and creating the conditions for managers and teams to thrive, collaborate and innovate.
- Elevate the QBCC's reputation and visibility, developing proactive, integrated communications strategies that build awareness, strengthen public confidence and demonstrate the organisation's contribution to Queensland's building and construction industry.
- Drive strategic media engagement,

evolving the media function to identify opportunities, anticipate emerging issues and shape the narrative, while ensuring the organisation can respond effectively to complex, sensitive and time-critical matters.
- Provide trusted executive and ministerial advice, overseeing high-quality ministerial and corporate advisory services, navigating competing priorities and supporting timely, informed decision-making on sensitive issues.
- Strengthen complaints management and stakeholder responsiveness, ensuring feedback, concerns and emerging issues inform organisational decision-making, service improvement and public confidence.
- Build a strategic business-partner model, positioning the function as a valued advisor across the organisation, working closely with leaders to understand business priorities and translate them into effective communications and outcomes.
- Empower managers and build capability, setting clear expectations, developing leadership capacity and fostering a high-performing, collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Navigate complex stakeholder environments, building trusted relationships across the executive, government, industry, media and community, with the judgement to read the room, while utilising research and activity data, to influence effectively and balance different perspectives.

About You

You are a strategic and people-focused leader who knows how to bring people together, build confidence and deliver results in a complex and evolving environment.

You understand that effective leadership is about more than setting direction; it is about creating alignment, prioritising matters, empowering others and helping people navigate change with clarity and purpose.

You bring demonstrated leadership experience in communications, media, government relations or executive advisory services, research, or a related discipline. While experience in one or more of these areas will be valuable, your ability to lead people, influence outcomes and translate strategy into action is paramount.

You are recognised for your strategic leadership and delivery focus, track record of supporting teams through periods of change, and exceptional communication and influencing skills. You understand how to navigate complex service environments and have a collaborative and business-focused approach to building strong relationships across organisational boundaries and positioning communications to achieving business objectives.

Above all, this is a role for a leader who thrives on complexity, brings energy to change and understands the importance of taking people with them.
