An established international product. A new Australian market. The opportunity to make your mark.
Some sales roles give you an established territory to manage. Others give you the opportunity to build something from the ground up.
This is the second.
We're looking for a commercially driven Business Development Manager to help establish a premium, crystalline silica-free surface product in the Australian market. Already established internationally, the business is investing in its local presence, with Melbourne at the centre of its next stage of growth.
The product has a compelling point of difference in a changing architectural surfaces market. The challenge now is to introduce it to the right customers, build industry confidence and turn that opportunity into a successful, growing business.
The Opportunity:
This is a newly created role for someone who enjoys opening doors, creating demand and turning conversations into commercial results.
You'll build relationships across stone fabricators, kitchen manufacturers, distributors, builders, architects and interior designers. You'll develop new accounts, uncover project opportunities and influence product selection, taking the sales process from the first conversation through to conversion and ongoing business.
A new showroom, office and warehouse facility is currently being established in Melbourne. Until it's ready, you'll work from home and/or through temporary showroom arrangements while getting out into the market and building momentum.
You'll have genuine ownership of your territory and the opportunity to help shape how the business establishes itself in Australia.
What you'll be doing:
- Proactively identify, approach and win new trade accounts and project opportunities across metropolitan Melbourne.
- Build relationships with fabricators, kitchen companies, distributors, builders,
architects and interior designers.
- Present the product's design, technical and commercial advantages, creating opportunities for specification and project conversion.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and customer presentations through to negotiation, account onboarding and repeat business.
- Develop a solid sales pipeline, maintain accurate forecasts and identify opportunities through industry networks, site visits and market research.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, industry events and networking opportunities, building awareness and credibility in the market.
Who I'm looking for:
You'll be a proven B2B business developer who enjoys hunting for new business, building relationships and taking ownership of results.
Ideally, you'll come from architectural surfaces, stone, tiles, kitchens, cabinetry, building materials or another premium, design-led product category. You'll understand how to sell into a market where product knowledge, aesthetics, commercial value and trust all influence the buying decision.
You might already be a successful BDM looking for greater autonomy, or someone who has built a territory before and is ready to do it again with a business at an exciting stage of its Australian growth.
Either way, you'll bring:
- A genuine hunter mentality and a track record of developing new accounts.
- The confidence to open doors, build networks and create opportunities rather than wait for leads.
- Strong commercial instincts, sound negotiation skills and the ability to manage a sales pipeline.
- An entrepreneurial approach, with the initiative to work autonomously and adapt as the business grows.
Existing relationships across Melbourne's architectural, design, fabrication or residential construction markets will be highly regarded.
What's on offer:
- $120,000–$150,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus superannuation.
- Company car and commission.
- The opportunity to introduce a premium, internationally established product to the Australian market.
- Real ownership of your territory, business development strategy and customer relationships.
- The chance to help establish the local operation as its new showroom, office and warehouse come online.
A note from me:
I'm David Hamilton, a Registered Architect who spent more than 15 years in architectural practice before moving into specialist sales recruitment with Salexo Consulting.
Having worked in architecture and now recruiting across architectural products and building materials, I understand both sides of the fence. I know how products get specified, how industry relationships develop and what it takes to turn market knowledge into commercial results.
For this role, I'm looking for someone who can do more than maintain a territory. I want to speak with a person who enjoys winning new business, understands the design and construction market, and has the drive to help build something with genuine potential.
If that sounds like you, I'd welcome a confidential conversation:
