Help Australia & Current Zealand's quantum and research community keep their coldest, cleanest systems running. Nano Vacuum is looking for a hands-on Field Service Engineer to install, commission and maintain dilution refrigerators and a broad range of vacuum equipment at university, research and industry sites across Australia and New Zealand.
About the role
This role is based out of our Head Office in Castle Hill, NSW, and covers Australia and New Zealand.
You'll be the face of Nano Vacuum on customer sites. Most of your time will go to cryogenic systems:
installations, cooldowns, performance checks, preventive maintenance, fault-finding and repairs. The rest will be across our wider vacuum product range, including pumps, gauging, chambers and associated
components. You'll be across the wider product range, including Fabrication, Lithography,
Characterisation and Advanced Packaging within Quantum, Semiconductor, Photonics & MedTech
applications. You'll work closely with our sales and applications team, and with our sister company Boson Engineering, a Sydney builder of custom PVD vacuum and TVAC chambers.
What you'll do
• Install, commission and hand over dilution refrigerator systems, including cryogen-free pulse tube
cooling, gas handling and control electronics
• Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnose faults and restore systems quickly, on site or remotely
• Service and support Nano Vacuum's general vacuum products: pump servicing, leak detection, and system troubleshooting
• Train customers and write clear service reports,
so researchers get back to their experiments with
confidence
• Manage spares, tooling and service documentation, and liaise with our equipment manufacturers and principals on technical issues
What we're looking for
• Degree qualification in engineering, physics, or a related technical field (mechanical, electrical,
mechatronics, instrumentation)
• Hands-on experience with high-vacuum or cryogenic systems, or a strong technical background and a keen appetite to learn
• Comfortable working independently, travelling interstate and being the customer's first point of contact
• Willingness to travel internationally to New Zealand, and overseas for factory training
• Clear communication and tidy, careful workmanship
• Current driver's licence and the right to work in Australia
Nice to have
Dilution refrigerator or other cryogenics experience, helium leak detection, high vacuum practice,
familiarity with PLC code, LabVIEW or Python, and a white card or similar site-access tickets.
Why join us
• Work on cutting-edge quantum, materials and space-science systems alongside Australia's leading
researchers
• Manufacturer-backed training on our cryogenic products
• Car allowance, laptop and phone supplied
• A small, technically strong team with real room to shape the service function
• Competitive salary based on experience plus 12% superannuation
