About us
Under parent company, Korea Zinc Corporation Pty Ltd, our Australian entities (“KZ Australia”) consist of one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, a road transport and logistics operation servicing the minerals province of Queensland, a growing stevedoring company and a leading Australian renewable energy company specialising in wind, solar and hydrogen.
This role will mainly support two of these businesses:
Townsville Logistics (TL) was founded in North Queensland in 2017. It delivers safe, reliable road transport and logistics across the region, with a mission to lead in supply chain excellence and deliver solutions built around its customers.
Townsville Marine Logistics (TML) is our growing stevedoring business, keeping cargo moving through the Port of Townsville.
You will also provide back-up payroll cover for:
Sun Metals Corporation (SMC), located in Stuart, 11 km from the Townsville CBD. Sun Metals produces Special High Grade Zinc, Zinc Alloy and by-products including sulfuric acid, copper, cadmium and zinc ferrite for domestic and international markets. Its mission is to be the best zinc refinery in the world: the safest, the most environmentally responsible and the most competitive.
About the role
Do you love the satisfaction of a payroll that's right, on time and every time? We're looking for a capable, detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our HR team and deliver an accurate, reliable payroll service. You'll focus on TL and TML and provide back-up cover for SMC.
In this role, you will own the end-to-end processing of high-volume monthly and fortnightly payrolls.
You'll make sure people are paid correctly and on time, entitlements are applied properly, and all legislative and statutory requirements are met.
You'll work closely with employees, managers and external providers to resolve payroll queries, look into discrepancies and give timely, practical support. Keeping accurate records, protecting confidential information and spotting and fixing errors early will be central to how you work.
You'll also get to see the business from both sides. Your time will be split between the TLTML office in the city and the SMC refinery in Stuart. That means you'll build real relationships with the people you pay, from the transport yard and the wharf to the refinery floor.
Beyond day-to-day processing, you'll be encouraged to bring ideas. You'll help improve our payroll systems, reporting and processes, strengthen controls and make the employee experience even better.
Why you'll love working with us
- A small but mighty team: Our HR team across all three businesses works closely together. We take our role seriously, back each other up and are committed to excellent service.
- Variety: You'll work across three businesses, multiple payrolls, Enterprise Agreements and Awards,
and a mix of office and operational sites.
- Real impact: In a team our size, your work is noticed, your ideas are heard and you can help shape how payroll is done.
- Growth: Working across logistics, stevedoring and refining will broaden your payroll experience and grow your career.
- Belonging: You'll be part of the wider KZ Australia group, with a strong regional presence and a proud North Queensland identity.
About you
You're an organised, proactive payroll professional who takes pride in accurate, timely and compliant outcomes. You work methodically, have a sharp eye for detail and enjoy getting to the bottom of a discrepancy.
You'll bring:
- Confidence in high-volume, end-to-end payroll processing, including end-of-month (EOM) reporting
- The ability to interpret and apply Enterprise Agreements and Awards so pay and entitlements are calculated correctly
- Experience with payroll systems, ideally Employment Hero or KeyPay
- Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and statutory requirements, including tax, superannuation and WorkCover
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines without losing accuracy
- Solid communication and problem-solving skills, with a professional, approachable manner
- Discretion with confidential information
- A team-first attitude: you're happy to share knowledge and step in to cover other payrolls when needed
Ready to join us?
If you want a varied payroll role where your work makes a real difference, with a supportive team behind you, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now.
