Help our basketball community thrive

Behind every great basketball experience is someone who keeps things organised, answers the questions and makes people feel welcome.

At Western Port Basketball Association (WPBA), we’re looking for a community-minded Basketball Administrator who enjoys helping people and takes pride in making things run smoothly.

From helping a family register for their first season to coordinating fixtures, growing our competitions or supporting our Steelers representative teams, your work will make a difference to the players, families, coaches and volunteers who make up our basketball community.

The opportunity

This newly created position brings together administration across our domestic competitions and junior and senior representative programs. Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll be a central point of contact for our community and a key member of our small staff team.

It’s a varied, hands-on role for someone who can balance friendly, responsive customer service with accurate administration and transparent priorities. You’ll also have the opportunity to improve how we work and contribute ideas that help more people get involved in basketball.

What you’ll do

- Provide helpful, timely support to players, families, clubs, coaches and team managers.
- Coordinate domestic competition administration, including registrations, team entries, fixtures, grading, and finals.
- Maintain accurate competition and participant information in PlayHQ.
- Support representative basketball administration, including try-outs, registrations, team documentation, and communications.
- Coordinate court bookings, training allocations and venue requirements.
- Keep track of competition deadlines, compliance requirements and confidential records.
- Ensure all areas of the Club are complaint with Child Safety Obligations
- Work with colleagues, volunteers and committees to improve the participant experience and support competition growth.

What you’ll bring

You’re organised,

approachable and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You understand that a clear answer, a well-managed process or a little extra patience can make someone’s experience better.

We’re looking for:

- Strong customer service skills and a commitment to supporting a welcoming community.
- Experience in administration, competition management, sport or a related environment.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines with care and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Confidence using digital systems and learning new platforms.
- A practical approach to solving problems and the ability to stay composed during busy periods.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.

Experience with PlayHQ and an understanding of basketball competitions would be highly regarded. If your experience comes from another sport, community organisation or customer-focused administration role, we’d also love to hear from you.

Why join Western Port?

This is an opportunity to do work that connects people, supports local sport and helps a community grow.

You’ll work directly with the General Manager and alongside colleagues, coaches and volunteers who care about basketball and the people who play it. You’ll have responsibility for your own work, scope to contribute ideas and the satisfaction of seeing your efforts make a difference on and off the court.

WPBA is committed to child safety. The successful applicant will be required to meet relevant child safety requirements, including maintaining a current Working with Children Check where required.

Application Instruction

Please send your résumé and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you’d like to contribute to the Western Port basketball community to **@wpba.com.au

Applications: Applications close Friday 13th November. WPBA reserves the right to commence interviews as applications are received, and appoint earlier than the closing date.

For a confidential discussion, contact Nathan Sewell, General Manager, at **@wpba.com.au
