ACT Joinery & Building is seeking an experienced Wood Machinist to join our production team at our Pooraka facility in South Australia. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity to work with modern timber processing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. As a Wood Machinist, you will play a crucial role in our production operations, ensuring high-quality output whilst maintaining strict safety and efficiency standards. Your expertise will be essential to our continued success in delivering quality joinery and building products to our customers.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and manage a range of woodworking machinery including saws, planers, sanders, and other specialised equipment
- Set up machines according to specifications and product requirements, ensuring proper calibration and safety measures
- Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality standards
- Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy and compliance with specifications
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of work areas and machinery
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines including cleaning, lubrication and basic repairs
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and deadlines
- Record production data and report any equipment issues or safety concerns
What we're looking for
- Proven experience operating woodworking machinery and equipment
- Strong understanding of timber properties, dimensions and grading standards
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, particularly in manufacturing environments
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Reliability and punctuality with a skilled approach to work
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in machine operation or woodworking (preferred)
- Previous experience in joinery or building product manufacturing (advantageous)
