Position summary
We are seeking an experienced
Manager Commercial & Legal
to lead ECG's commercial and legal function across our international operations.
This is a business-facing role with direct exposure to senior leaders, project teams, finance and operations.
You will be involved early in the decisions that matter, helping ECG negotiate strong commercial outcomes, manage contractual risk and navigate complex claims, disputes and strategic opportunities.

With offices in Perth, Brisbane, Toronto, Vancouver, Manila & Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania & Cape Town, ECG have the capability to design and deliver on complex projects, from early study work to commissioning and handover, drawing on the expertise of senior ECG personnel who have worked together for 30 + years.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
Lead the review, drafting and negotiation of client, supplier, subcontractor and other commercial agreements
Advise on contract structures, pricing, liabilities, indemnities, insurance, variations, claims and dispute resolution
Partner with project, operational, finance and executive teams to identify commercial and legal risks early
Review material tender terms,



qualifications and commercial proposals and provide explicit recommendations before submission
Lead significant commercial negotiations and coordinate ECG's response to material claims and disputes
Support contract handover so project teams understand key obligations, milestones, notice requirements and commercial risks
Advise on acquisitions, partnerships and strategic transactions, including due diligence, transaction documents and external legal support
About the candidate
What You'll Bring
Admitted as a lawyer in Australia, and holding, or eligible to hold, a current Australian practising certificate.
A current practising certificate where required
At least five years of post-admission experience in commercial law, including drafting and negotiating complex contracts
Commercial experience within engineering, construction, resources or project delivery
Strong capability across contract risk, claims, disputes and commercial negotiations
Experience advising senior operational and business leaders and managing external legal advisers
Practical commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear business advice
