Prescient is seeking an experienced Senior Network/Gateway Engineer to act as technical lead on a Network Gateway Migration for a Tier 1 Federal Government agency. This is a hands-on senior role spanning the full lifecycle, from requirements and solution architecture through design, implementation, testing and production cutover.

The role reports to the Head of Cyber and works as part of a Prescient delivery team, alongside other engineers and closely with client architects, security and operations staff. In the permanent role, there is a genuine opportunity to build Prescient’s Network and Gateway security offering, contributing to pre-sales, strategy and solution development, and growing into leading the offering and managing engagements.

This is a full-time role based in Canberra on a hybrid working arrangement, with an immediate start. Fixed-term contract to 30 June 2027 with possibility of extension also available.

Key Responsibilities

Technical leadership

- Act as technical lead on network gateway migration engagements, working closely with the client as part of the Prescient delivery team
- Make design decisions within the client’s agreed architecture, in collaboration with client stakeholders
- Mentor junior engineers and lift technical capability across the team

Requirements, architecture and design

- Facilitate client workshops to understand and document requirements
- Develop solution architecture and detailed design for gateway and Security Service Edge (SSE) solutions

Implementation, testing and cutover

- Implement the solution hands-on alongside other engineers
- Plan and conduct testing to validate the solution before production
- Lead or support key production cutovers

Offering development

- Contribute to pre-sales, scoping and solution development for Network and Gateway security engagements
- Help shape the strategy and growth of Prescient’s Network and Gateway security offering

What you Bring

- Cisco certifications (CCNP or above)



and SSE vendor certifications (such as Zscaler or Netskope) are highly regarded but not essential.
- 10+ years of experience across enterprise networking and internet gateways, ideally including Australian Government environments.
- Strong understanding of legacy gateway technologies and the realities of migrating away from them.
- Hands-on experience with SSE platforms such as Zscaler, Netskope or Cisco Umbrella, and working knowledge of Secure Web Gateway (SWG), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
- Explicit communication and stakeholder skills, with the confidence to run client workshops and the ability to move between design and hands-on implementation.
- A commitment to Prescient’s values, way of working and cultural standards.
- Australian Citizen – Willing and able to obtain and maintain an AGSVA security clearance (level to be discussed with shortlisted candidates).
