About Liquor & Gaming NSW
We are at the pointy end of industry supervision for the liquor, gaming, wagering, casino and registered club sectors in NSW. We're enabling vibrant and dynamic hospitality and racing environments that are safe and responsible, and our regulatory efforts are evidenced-informed, coordinated, and targeted to where the risks are greatest.
Our work is as diverse as our people and the NSW communities we serve. See what it's like to work with us!
About the Role
As a Lead Inspector, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of compliance professionals responsible for delivering inspections, investigations, audits, and other regulatory activities across Liquor & Gaming NSW's areas of responsibility.
Leading from the front, you will coordinate and oversee a range of risk-based compliance activities, ensuring regulatory efforts are targeted, consistent, and effective in achieving positive outcomes for the community.
This is a highly varied role that combines operational leadership with hands-on regulatory expertise. You will guide and mentor team members, support complex and sensitive investigations, monitor team performance, and provide expert advice on compliance matters.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, co-regulators and industry representatives, you will contribute to strategic compliance initiatives, continuous improvement projects, and enforcement outcomes that enhance integrity and public confidence in the regulatory framework.
The role includes regular field-based activities, including rostered weekend and after-hours deployments, and offers the opportunity to influence both operational delivery and broader regulatory outcomes.
About You
You are an experienced compliance or regulatory professional with a strong track record of leading teams and achieving outcomes in complex and energetic environments.
You are confident making sound, evidence-based decisions, supporting others through coaching and guidance, and managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising teams in a regulatory, compliance, investigative, enforcement or related environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor and develop staff while fostering a positive and accountable team culture.
- Experience coordinating inspections, investigations, audits or compliance programs using a risk-based approach.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across a diverse stakeholder group.
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and regulatory frameworks in complex operational environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk, identify trends and support informed decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of reports, recommendations, briefs and enforcement-related documentation.
- Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism and integrity.
- The flexibility to undertake operational deployments, including regular weekend and after-hours work.
Why Join Us?
This is an excellent opportunity for a capable people leader who is passionate about regulatory excellence, building team capability, and delivering meaningful compliance outcomes. You will play a key role in shaping operational performance, supporting your team to succeed, and contributing to safer communities through effective regulation and enforcement.
If you are motivated by leading people, driving compliance outcomes, and making a positive impact across NSW, we encourage you to apply.
