About the Role

Programmed Skilled Workforce is partnering with a leading Australian equipment hire provider to recruit a trade-qualified Plant Mechanic / Fitter Mechanic for its workshop maintenance team in Fyshwick ACT.

This established organisation specialises in equipment hire and rental solutions, supporting customers across construction, infrastructure, industrial and other sectors with a diverse range of machinery and equipment.

This is a full time, workshop-based opportunity for a mechanically minded professional who enjoys variety and can confidently service, maintain, diagnose and repair different types of plant and hire equipment.

Working within an experienced maintenance team, you will primarily work with diesel-powered equipment and hydraulic systems, alongside a variety of machinery, access equipment, scissor lifts and generators. Generator work is focused on mechanical and engine maintenance, with electrical repairs managed by external contractors.

Hours: Monday to Friday, either 7:00am–3:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm
Pay Rate: $40–$45 per hour + 12% superannuation, with up to $50 per hour considered for highly experienced candidates
Location: Fyshwick / Hume, ACT
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time

What You'll Be Doing

- Performing preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, mechanical repairs and overhauls across a diverse range of hire equipment.

- Diagnosing mechanical faults and troubleshooting diesel engines, mechanical components and hydraulic systems.

- Servicing and maintaining plant equipment, scissor lifts, access equipment, generators and other hire machinery.

- Working predominantly with diesel engines, with some petrol-powered equipment.

- Identifying and repairing hydraulic faults, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.

- Conducting equipment safety inspections and compliance checks in line with manufacturer requirements.

- Following maintenance procedures and ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and ready for hire.

- Recording service and repair information accurately using the company's maintenance management system.

- Assisting with spare parts identification, stock control and ordering where required.

- Working collaboratively with the Leading Hand and wider workshop team to manage maintenance priorities and minimise equipment downtime.

- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

This role offers plenty of variety. You'll need to be comfortable moving between different machines, engines and mechanical systems rather than working on the same type of equipment every day.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A relevant mechanical trade qualification, such as Plant Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Mechanical Fitter.

- Your own tools, with a tool allowance provided.

The following will be highly regarded:

- Previous experience working for an equipment hire or rental company.

- Experience with pneumatic systems.

- Welding, fabrication or boilermaking experience.

- A current MR or HR driver's licence, forklift licence or EWP ticket.

Candidates without these additional licences may still be considered, with the employer willing to support the successful candidate in obtaining relevant tickets within their first year.
