About the role

Adelaide Hills Slashing is looking for an experienced Horticulturalist / Vegetation Management Operator to join our team based in Meadows, SA.

This is a hands-on outdoor role combining horticulture, weed management, ecological mowing and machinery operation across private, commercial and government sites.

While the position is casual, full-time hours are generally available throughout the main growing seasons, with a lighter workload through winter.

A key part of the role is ecological and technical mowing of revegetation sites, requiring good plant identification skills and the ability to carefully work around native, planted and desirable vegetation.

This isn't a nursery or desk-based horticulture position. You'll be out in the field operating equipment, spraying weeds, mowing, brushcutting and assisting with slashing and vegetation management.

What you'll be doing

Your work will include:

- Ecological and technical mowing of revegetation sites

- Identifying and protecting native and desirable vegetation

- Weed identification and chemical spraying

- General weed and vegetation management

- Commercial ride-on mowing

- Brushcutting

- Tractor slashing

- General horticultural and grounds maintenance

- Plant health and vegetation assessments

- Working on private, commercial and government sites

- Working on steep, difficult and varying terrain

- Completing chemical application and job records

- Operating and maintaining machinery, tools and equipment

- Driving manual work utes and towing trailers between job sites

- A mix of metropolitan, Adelaide Hills and country driving

- Working independently and alongside the wider Adelaide Hills Slashing team

What we're looking for





We're looking for someone with a strong horticultural background who is equally comfortable getting on the tools, operating machinery and travelling between job sites.

Essential

- Current ChemCert accreditation

- Horticultural qualification or strong relevant industry experience

- Good plant and weed identification skills

- Experience with weed control and herbicide application

- Current driver's licence

- Competent and confident driving a manual ute

- Competent and confident towing and manoeuvring trailers

- Comfortable driving in a mix of city, suburban, Adelaide Hills and country conditions

- Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

- Ability to work safely and independently

- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a small team

Applicants must be comfortable driving work vehicles and towing trailers as a regular part of the role. This includes city traffic, narrow Adelaide Hills roads, country roads and accessing a variety of job sites.

Highly regarded

- Experience with ecological or revegetation site maintenance

- Native plant identification experience

- Commercial ride-on mower experience

- Brushcutter experience

- Tractor and slashing experience

- Experience working on steep or difficult terrain

- Previous work on council, government or commercial sites

- Chainsaw experience or relevant tickets

You don't need to have operated every machine we use, but you will need to be comfortable around machinery and willing to learn.

Hours and seasonality





This is a casual position with the potential for full-time hours during our busy growing seasons.

Our workload is seasonal. Spring, summer and autumn are generally our busiest periods, with lighter workloads and fewer hours through winter.

This arrangement may suit someone who enjoys a busy working season while having more flexibility during the quieter winter months.

Adelaide Hills Slashing is a vegetation and land management business servicing the Adelaide Hills and surrounding areas.

Despite the name, we do much more than slashing.

Our work includes ecological and technical mowing, revegetation site maintenance, weed control, commercial mowing, brushcutting, horticultural maintenance, land management and tractor slashing.

We work across private properties and commercial and government sites, with a particular capability in steep and difficult-access work.

We are a small team and value people who are reliable, practical, take pride in their work and are willing to help across different types of jobs.
