The Sir John Franklin Hotel, affectionately known asThe SIRJ, is a much-loved Kapunda local with heritage charm, a welcoming front bar, dining room and beer garden.

We’re looking for an approachable, motivatedVenue Managerwho loves hospitality, knows how to bring out the best in a team and takes pride in running a great pub.

The Role

As Venue Manager, you’ll take ownership of the hotel’s daily operations, balancing great customer experiences with strong team leadership and sound commercial decisions.

Working with the Duxton Pubs support team, your responsibilities will include:

- Leading daily operations across food, beverage, gaming and functions.
- Recruiting, coaching and developing a confident, capable team.
- Setting clear expectations and building a positive, accountable workplace.
- Managing rosters, wage costs and staffing levels to suit trade.
- Monitoring sales, budgets, stock and venue performance, and acting on opportunities to improve.
- Working closely with the kitchen team to deliver consistent food and service.
- Maintaining strong liquor licensing, gaming, responsible gambling and workplace safety standards.
- Building relationships with locals, community groups and suppliers.




- Supporting promotions, events and functions that give people a reason to visit and return.

You’ll be visible on the floor, ready to support your team during busy service and comfortable having the conversations that keep everyone moving in the right direction.

About You

You’re organized, commercially aware and calm under pressure. You understand that a successful venue needs both strong systems and a team that feels supported.

You’ll bring:

- Experience as a Venue Manager, Assistant Venue Manager or senior hospitality leader ready for the next step.
- A solid understanding of pub operations, including food, beverage and gaming.
- Confidence managing wages, stock, budgets and operational priorities.
- Clear communication and a practical approach to solving problems.
- The ability to coach people, address performance concerns and recognise outstanding work.
- Relevant RSA and gaming qualifications, and the ability to meet the role’s licensing and approval requirements.
- Availability to work across a hospitality roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
