This is a Monday to Friday job in Brisbane. You are home every night, and your weekends are your own.
It’s also hands-on work at the research and development side of the business. You’ll build prototype wiring harnesses from scratch, fit sensors and rework circuit boards, and contribute ideas to how the harness workshop operates and develops.
You’ll work right beside the engineers who design what you build and as our in-house electronics expert, you’ll be an integral part of the operation. There is an important purpose to this work - what you build helps reduce emissions in mining.
If FIFO is no longer for you, this is another option. You’ll still work on large engines, but in a specialised environment, rather than a traditional workshop or mining site.
If you are living regionally or interstate and thinking about a move, we’re open to that too.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be part of our development team, where our engineers design custom equipment to make large engines run cleaner. You'll work in a tidy, specialised research and development environment, supporting both established engine technology and ongoing development. You’ll be our go-to person for electronics on large engines, the hands‑on tech who turns a drawing into something that works. If you enjoy getting to the bottom of an unusual sensor reading or electrical fault, rather than simply following instructions, you'll fit right in here.
Working alongside the Large Engine Mechanic and Gas Compression Technician, you will
- Build bespoke wiring harnesses from drawings provided, for use in the engine test cell
- Work with the engineering team to select, install, operate and maintain pressure and temperature sensors
- Rework PCBs, both with surface mount and through hole components
- Help the engineering team implement ECUs on large engines
- Read schematics to work out the best way to build or repair something
- Provide auto electrical expertise and practical outcomes to the engineering team
- Help keep the workshop, test cell and yard safe and tidy
- Help the Workshop Supervisor with electronics parts ordering
For the motorsport people
A lot of the equipment we use comes from the motorsport world. We tune it for lower emissions rather than lap times. If you spend your weekends with your head under a bonnet, the gear will feel familiar, and you’ll find a few people here who like to do the same.
What you’ll bring
You’re a skilled, confident technician: a professional in the large engines field who can work without regular supervision. You will need:-
- A Cert III in Electronics, an auto electrical trade, or similar
- Comprehensive experience with the electronics of large engines
- Hands‑on experience building wiring harnesses
- Steady soldering skills on PCBs, and confidence reading schematics
- The ability to diagnose a fault, fix it and explain clearly what you found
- Valuable written and verbal communication skills, and experience with Microsoft Office
Who we are
Mine Energy Solutions (MES) is a small yet specialised engineering company delivering
innovative technologies that safely challenge the existing cost and emissions model. Our technology is already working on engines overseas. We’ve taken our own dual fuel system from early development to successful field deployment. We’re a tight team of electrical engineers, engine development engineers and skilled tradespeople, and we’ve developed technology that lets large mining trucks run on a blend of gas and diesel, cutting their diesel use by up to 80%.
