Australian Skills Quality Authority

Australia

Who we are

We are Australia’s National Vocational Education and Training (VET) regulator.

What we do

We regulate providers that deliver VET qualifications and courses to students in Australia or offer Australian qualifications internationally, providers that deliver VET courses to overseas students, and certain providers that deliver English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students. We also accredit VET courses to make sure nationally approved standards are met.

Why we do it

We ensure quality VET so that students, industry, governments and the community have confidence in the integrity of national qualifications issues by training providers, and that students are protected from any practices that come at the expense of their ability to gain the required competencies.

Visit our website for more information about ASQA , including our role and how we regulate.

The opportunities

We are seeking two Senior Executive Service, Executive Directors to lead our Integrity and Compliance and Registration and Performance Branches.

About the Integrity and Compliance Branch

ASQA’s Integrity and Compliance Branch protects VET quality and qualification integrity through prevention and detection measures, deterrence strategies, investigations and enforcement actions. It manages complex non-compliance matters that may lead to administrative, civil or criminal action, supports providers to improve compliance, and tackles fraud and student exploitation. The Branch also collaborates with industry, governments and teams across ASQA to address workforce challenges, skills gaps and regulatory risk priorities.

About the role

As Executive Director, Integrity and Compliance you will lead ASQA’s Intelligence, Compliance and Enforcement teams to identify emerging and systematic risks, deter misconduct and address serious non-compliance and sustain confidence in nationally recognised training outcomes. Operating with a high degree of independence, you will set strategic and regulatory priorities, exercise sound judgement on matters of significant risk and consequence, and ensure resources, capability and regulatory powers are directed to the areas of greatest impact.

About the Registration and Performance Branch

ASQA’s Registration and Performance Branch oversees the entry and ongoing regulation of registered training organisations (RTOs) through a consistent, risk-based and transparent approach. It manages registrations and course accreditation, monitors provider performance and regulatory risks, and takes proportionate action on non-compliance. The Branch also delivers responsive frontline support by managing general enquiries and tip-offs and facilitating access to student records for former students and other stakeholders. It drives regulatory innovation and continuous improvement through cross-functional programs, practical guidance, tools, systems and data and insights.

About the role

As Executive Director,

Registration and Performance you will lead ASQA’s regulation of training providers from market entry, registration and renewal to course accreditation, service delivery and performance monitoring. You will also drive ASQA’s continuous improvement and data and insights functions. The role is critical to maintaining confidence in Australia's VET sector by ensuring consistent, evidence-based and risk-informed regulatory decision-making across the provider lifecycle.

Skills and experience

To see success in either of these roles, you will bring substantial senior executive experience leading complex regulatory functions, supported by the ability to:

- Think strategically – anticipate emerging risks and use intelligence, evidence and insights to shape regulatory priorities.
- Achieve results – translate strategy into clear priorities and action, build team capability, manage resources effectively and focus on high-impact regulatory outcomes.
- Cultivate productive working relationships – foster collaboration and partnerships that strengthen regulatory outcomes, sector integrity and public confidence.
- Exemplify personal drive and integrity – demonstrate resilience, sound judgement and accountability, provide frank and impartial advice, and uphold APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct.
- Communicate with influence – explain complex issues clearly, inspire shared purpose and direction, and negotiate durable outcomes.
- Demonstrate professional and regulatory leadership – make proportionate, high-impact decisions and lead enterprise-wide reform and continuous improvement.

As a key member of ASQA’s Executive Team, you will also contribute to agency-wide strategy, governance, transformation and stewardship.
