We require an individual to work at the insectary on a permanent part time basis (approx. 2-4 days per week) – a great opportunity for experienced professionals seeking a role with manageable hours and a supportive workplace. (Please note that you will be required to work occasional public holiday, but you will be remunerated accordingly.)
Key responsibilities
Complete day to day tasks of maintenance including, but not limited to, ensuring proper operation and safety of equipment, general workplace maintenance of water systems, landscaping, mowing, air conditioning and supplies as well as replacing and fixing parts that show deterioration.
The successful candidate will ensure all aspects of the Insectary are functioning properly and report to Management if there is a problem they cannot resolve; control weeds throughout the Insectary if required – irrigation and spraying experience is required.
Work-Related Requirements
- Team player.
- Good housekeeping, specially maintaining tools and machinery properly organized.
- Experience working with power tools.
- Needs to have experience in fixing solenoids, and irrigation break downs.
- Understanding of pumps used in horticulture.
- Problem solving with electrical breakdowns, and switch boards ect.
- Ability to build items, out of wood, metals that could be useful in a horticultural setup.
- Attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Must be physically fit.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift and carry heavy objects.
- Manual Class C Driving License and own transport due to location.
- Must have very good eyesight.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in responsibilities requested by senior staff.
- Adhere to rules which apply to restricted/quarantine movement between greenhouses and insect cultures, ensure no cross-contamination occurs.
- Organise equipment/supplies to comply with hygiene rules.
- Essential to present yourself in a professional manner at all times.
- Police clearance to be produced at the interview.
- Comply with WH&S; Employee roles and responsibilities as detailed in the WH&S; Manual.
- Must be available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7.00am to 3.30pm.
