Director of Development Sydney | Full time

About the opportunity 1834 Hotels is seeking a Director of Development to help grow our hotel management portfolio through proactive business development and strong owner and industry relationships.

Reporting to the Vice President of Growth, you will take ownership of opportunities across assigned markets—from establishing initial contact and understanding owner objectives through to proposals, commercial discussions and new management appointments.

You will work across existing hotels, conversions, operator transitions and current developments, engaging with independent owners, investors, developers, brokers and global hotel brands.

This opportunity will suit someone with relevant commercial experience who is ready for greater responsibility. You will bring initiative, sound judgement and confidence in building relationships, supported by the operational, financial and commercial expertise of the wider 1834 team.

Key responsibilities

Develop and execute focused business development plans across assigned markets and owner groups.

Proactively identify opportunities and establish relationships with hotel owners, investors and developers.

Build productive referral networks with brokers, brand development teams and industry advisers.

Understand owner objectives and assess opportunities with analytical support and input from internal specialists.

Lead owner engagement through proposals and presentations, ensuring recommendations reflect their requirements and our management capabilities.

Progress commercial discussions and negotiations alongside the Vice President of Growth and relevant advisers.

Maintain an active, qualified pipeline with clear priorities and consistent follow-through.

Contribute to securing new management appointments and coordinate the transition to onboarding and Operations.

Represent 1834 Hotels at owner meetings,



site inspections and industry events.

About you You may come from hotel development, hospitality investment, hotel brokerage or a related commercial role working with owners and investors.

We are looking for:

Experience originating new business through proactive outreach and relationship development, with evidence of progressing opportunities to commercial outcomes.

A warm, professional manner and the credibility to engage owners, developers, brands and senior stakeholders.

Commercial acumen, including the ability to interpret operating forecasts and financial assessments and discuss their implications.

Clear communication, presentation and negotiation skills.

Initiative, persistence and accountability, with disciplined organisation and follow-up.

The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and specialist teams.

Willingness to travel regularly for meetings, site visits and industry engagement.

Experience with hotel management or franchise agreements and established industry relationships will be valued. We also welcome candidates with robust relevant commercial experience who are ready to take the next step in their development career.
