About our school
St Martin’s School with an enrolment of over 620 students is the only Catholic Primary School in Queensland founded in the 800-year Dominican tradition which centres on four pillars: prayer, learning, service and community. At St Martin’s School we believe that a consistent approach to learning and teaching is essential to create a unified learning community. We have implemented a synthetic phonics approach to the teaching of reading, writing, and spelling which is lifting our literacy data. We also have a whole school approach to the teaching of problem solving in mathematics. Summary

St Martin's Catholic Primary School is seeking a reliable, skilled and community-minded Grounds person to join our school team. This full-time continuing position will help maintain secure, attractive and welcoming grounds that support the learning, wellbeing and enjoyment of our students, staff and families.

- Work hours: 38 hours per week
- Status:Full Time Continuing
- This position includes work during school holidays

About the opportunity

In this position you will be responsible for:

- Maintain lawns, gardens, landscaped areas, pathways and outdoor learning and play spaces.
- Undertake ride-on mowing, edging, hedging, pruning, weeding, planting and general garden care.
- Monitor the grounds proactively and complete seasonal and preventative maintenance.
- Support the safe setup and pack-down of school events, furniture and equipment when required.
- Identify and promptly report hazards, maintenance concerns and supply needs.




- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and contribute to a clean, orderly and secure school workplace
- Maintain a safe working environment for staff, students and visitors

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

- Demonstrated experience in groundskeeping, gardening, landscaping or a related role.
- Competence in ride-on mowing, hedging, pruning and the safe use of common grounds equipment.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to plan work, notice what needs attention and follow tasks through to completion.
- Good organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- Practical problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
- Physical capacity to undertake the inherent requirements of an active outdoor role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with students, staff, families, contractors and visitors.
- Patience, discretion, reliability and a willingness to contribute as part of a team.
- Flexibility and the capacity to respond calmly to changing school priorities.
- Experience in supervising and training grounds people, trades people, and apprentices.
- Commitment to WHS requirements.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications at Certificate III level, or completion of an apprenticeship would be highly regarded.

- Eligibility to work within Australia for the period of appointment.
- Currently hold or ability to obtain a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
