Up to $145,000 + super Look after one of the largest research data platforms in Australia Intersect is a not-for-profit owned by Australian universities, and part of the country’s research infrastructure. Its storage, cloud and data platforms support research into bushfire modelling, NSW air-quality forecasting, koala conservation, agriculture and solar. We’re looking for a Senior Systems & Storage Engineer to look after a 42 PB tiered disk-and-tape archive, built to grow past 120 PB. It sits alongside high-speed Lustre on VAST storage that feeds HPC workloads. Most corporate environments in Australia never get past a few petabytes. You don’t need Versity experience. If you understand hierarchical storage management (HSM), you can learn the product on the job. What you’ll do
• Run and troubleshoot multi-petabyte disk and tape storage
• Manage HSM policy: tiering, caching, recall and hydration
• Plan capacity, and look after replication, data protection and DR
• Integrate storage with HPC, cloud and container platforms
• Automate everything with Ansible, since all infrastructure is managed as code
• Work with vendors,



researchers and university stakeholders What you’ll bring
• A solid understanding of HSM or tiered storage (front-end cache, nearline/tape, recall). Experience with Versity, DMF, HPSS, SAM-QFS, Spectrum Archive, StorNext, or cloud tiering like AWS Glacier all counts.
• Robust Linux administration (SLES, Ubuntu, Red Hat), including HA and clustering
• Ansible or other infrastructure-as-code experience
• Australian citizenship or PR (sponsorship isn’t available) Bonus points
• HPC experience from a university, CSIRO or research institute
• Lustre, GPFS, Weka, VAST, InfiniBand
• Petabyte-scale environments
• Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana Why Intersect
