The Village Medical Practice
Harrisdale
Come and join The Village
We are a doctor-owned, doctor-operated general practice in Harrisdale. No head office. No regional manager. No monthly slide deck about "throughput". Just a practice built by two GPs who wanted to work somewhere they'd actually want to be seen themselves.
We pride ourselves on offering what we like to think of as an old-fashioned style of family medicine, within a modern practice – where patients are known by name, their stories matter, and their GP can become someone they and their extended family trust for many years to come.
The name isn't marketing fluff. Our logo is a Scottish croft, our coffee shop is called The Bothy, and the whole place was built on the idea that a practice should feel like a village — people who know each other, look after each other, and take the medicine seriously without taking themselves too seriously.1
That same sense of belonging extends to our team.
We want The Village to be a place where our doctors, nurses, administration team and support staff genuinely feel that they belong. A comfortable, welcoming workplace where people know each other, support each other and can enjoy coming to work.
The sessions we're looking to fill
- Tuesdays (full day)
- Friday afternoons
- Saturday mornings
- Sunday mornings
Other sessions may be available too — if the days above don't suit but The Village does, talk to us. We roster around real lives, school runs and small humans, because most of us are doing exactly that.
What you'd be walking into
- 70% of billings, private billing, with a transparent and regularly reviewed fee structure — our fees are published, our gaps are honest, and nobody is asked to churn.
- Eight consulting rooms, full nursing support, and an admin team who protect your day rather than fill it.
- A Distribution Priority Area location, so we can support doctors working under 19AB / moratorium arrangements.
- Best Practice clinical software,
and a practice that invests properly in its IT rather than apologising for it.
- Colleagues who are around. Corridor consults, a genuine open-door culture, and clinical peers who'll happily argue about a rash with you.
Special interests? Bring them.
We're a practice of people who go deep on things. Between us we run ADHD assessment and titration (with a GP prescriber pathway in-house), menopause clinics, skin work through The Village Skin Studio — our doctors-only cosmetic injectable arm — and the usual rich mix of chronic disease, paediatrics and family medicine. If you have a special interest, we'll help you build a caseload around it rather than telling you it doesn't fit the model.
We teach, and we're proud of it
We’re an RACGP-accredited teaching practice with multiple Clinical Supervisors on site, we host medical students from UWA, Notre Dame and Curtin, and many of our GP’s examine for all WA Medical schools and/or hold Adjunct Senior Lectureships. If supervising, teaching or being taught is your thing, you're in the right building. If it isn't, that's fine too — nobody will make you.
The bits that make the week easier
Most practices have an intranet nobody opens. Ours was built in-house, it's private to the practice, and people won't leave it alone.
It runs the roster, leave, credentials and CPD, our fee register and clinical calculators, the accreditation evidence, the medication expiry checks, the coffee shop till and the menu boards on the wall. It also runs the practice playlist — you can request a song,
though the MD reserves the right to veto it, and yes, people have tried to game the voting. There's a staff Wordle clone, which has caused more arguments than any clinical topic.
The serious point underneath the silliness: the boring parts of practice life here are automated, visible and fair, so the interesting part of your day is medicine.
The Bothy and the Croft Store
There is a real coffee shop in our practice, run by us, with a barista, actual food, and a menu board that changes itself. Patients waiting for you are handed a coffee at $0.00. There's also the Croft Store for the bits and pieces people forget.
It's a small thing that turns out not to be a small thing at all: people arrive at their appointment warm, unhurried and holding a flat white.
Who we're hoping to hear from
- A vocationally registered GP (FRACGP/FACRRM) with general AHPRA registration — or an IMG on a transparent pathway, given our DPA status
- Applicants must already hold a valid Australian visa with work rights; we can support the right candidate from there, but we are not able to arrange sponsorship from scratch
- Someone who wants continuity of care and their own patients, not a conveyor belt
- Someone happy to be part of a team — we all cover each other, and it works because everyone does it
- A sense of humour is not formally on the person specification, but you will need one
What we offer
- 70% of billings (*a small hospitality contribution applies)
- Genuine flexibility over your sessions and your appointment lengths
- Full nursing and admin support, and equipment that works
- Teaching, supervision and special-interest opportunities if you want them
- Access to the wider Village family — Skin Studio, The Bothy, and whatever we build next
- A practice that is small enough to know your name and organised enough to run properly
