An exciting opportunity is available for an accomplished Chief Architect to provide strategic and technical leadership across a major Victorian Government digital transformation program.This is a senior architecture leadership position requiring an experienced technology professional who can operate as the principal technical authority, provide architectural direction across multiple delivery streams, and ensure technology decisions support long-term enterprise strategy and operational sustainability.
The RoleReporting to the Program Director, the Chief Architect will hold technical design authority across multiple product streams and shared platform services. You will establish and govern enterprise architecture standards, lead architectural decision-making and provide strategic technical leadership across a complex, multi-team transformation workplace.You will work closely with senior technology leadership, delivery teams, vendors and government stakeholders to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, integrated and designed for successful transition into BAU operations.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead and maintain the program's architecture governance framework, including Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), technical service governance and the Technical Design Authority.
- Chair the Technical Design Authority, providing cross-stream architectural oversight and ensuring significant technical decisions are appropriately governed.
- Define and maintain the end-to-end technical solution architecture across platforms, integrations and product streams.
- Provide leadership across cloud platforms, API architecture, enterprise integration and platform engineering.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, privacy and compliance requirements.
- Provide architectural leadership across IAM,



SSO and role-based access control for enterprise-scale applications.
- Establish governance for AI and emerging technologies, considering technical feasibility, privacy, security, bias and accountability.
- Develop architecture and technical transition pathways to support successful BAU handover and operational sustainability.

About YouYou will bring:
- Extensive experience in Enterprise Architecture / Chief Architect / Principal Architect positions within large-scale digital transformation programs.
- Demonstrated experience acting as a technical authority across multiple concurrent delivery streams.
- Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
- Strong understanding of API design, governance and technical service contracts.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure is highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise security, IAM, SSO and RBAC.
- Experience designing technology solutions within complex security, privacy and compliance environments.
- Demonstrated experience establishing and operating architecture governance structures such as Technical Design Authorities, Architecture Review Boards and ADR frameworks.
- Experience designing solutions for successful transition from project/program delivery into BAU operations.
- Understanding of AI governance and emerging technology assessment.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, leadership, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Government and/or social services sector experience would be highly regarded.
