Stepfast Flooring
Wangara
## A serious sales opportunity for the right person Stepfast Flooring is a growing, family-owned flooring business based in Wangara, supplying and installing premium residential and commercial flooring across Perth. We've built our reputation on honest advice, quality workmanship and looking after customers properly, backed by a 2025 ATFA Award of Excellence. We're now looking for an experienced Sales & Project Consultant to become a key part of the business as we grow. This is an important hire for us. We're investing in our Wangara showroom, expanding our sales capability and building a stronger team for the next stage of Stepfast. We're looking for someone reliable, commercially minded and good with people who wants to learn the flooring industry properly, build strong customer relationships and establish themselves with us for the long term. For the right person, there is genuine earning potential, responsibility and room to grow with the business. ## The opportunity You'll walk into an existing flow of genuine sales opportunities. That includes showroom enquiries, booked consultations, phone and online enquiries, work orders from existing customers, repeat business and established builder accounts. You're not starting with an empty database and being told to cold-call your way to a target. You'll meet customers, understand what they're trying to achieve and guide them towards the right flooring solution. You'll conduct site measures, take samples to customers' homes, prepare accurate quotations and stay on top of every opportunity until the customer makes a decision. When you win a project, you'll remain involved. You'll coordinate the job through ordering and installation, work alongside our installation teams and make sure the customer receives what was promised. It's a hands-on sales position with real ownership. ## Join us at an important stage of growth We're continuing to invest in Stepfast, including the renovation and development of our Wangara showroom and the growth of our sales team. You'll be joining at a point where you can become an established part of that team rather than stepping into a large sales department where everything has already been decided. You'll work closely with the people who own and run the business, and over time alongside additional sales consultants as the team grows. That means teamwork matters here. We want someone who can perform individually while still contributing to the wider team. You'll need to communicate, share information, help keep the showroom operating properly and work with others to get the best outcome for the customer and the business. Your results will be noticed. Your ideas will be heard. If you're capable of taking on more responsibility, there is room for that responsibility to grow as the business grows. We're looking for someone who could become a trusted part of Stepfast for years, not someone already thinking about their next move. ## We'll teach the right person the industry Flooring has a technical side, and we don't expect someone coming from another sales industry to know everything on day one. We'll invest the time required to teach the right person our products, systems, measuring, installation requirements and the technical side of flooring. What we expect in return is someone who learns quickly, asks good questions, retains what they're taught and becomes increasingly self-sufficient. If you're already experienced in flooring,
that's an advantage. If you're coming from another industry, your ability to learn will matter just as much as your ability to sell. ## What you'll be responsible for Your week will be varied. You'll spend time in the showroom, on customer sites and managing your projects. You'll be responsible for:
- Managing showroom enquiries and booked sales appointments
- Working with homeowners, builders and commercial clients to understand their project and recommend the right flooring
- Conducting in office measures, taking samples to customers' homes and discussing installation requirements
- Preparing accurate quotations and following them through to a clear outcome
- Following up consistently so genuine opportunities don't disappear through lack of contact
- Picking up work orders from existing customers and taking them through measure, quote and installation
- Coordinating your sold jobs from order through to installation
- Liaising with our installation teams and keeping customers informed
- Maintaining an accurate CRM, with every lead, quote and pipeline stage kept current
- Working collaboratively with the wider team so enquiries, customers and projects are properly looked after
- Helping maintain a professional, organised showroom as our sales team grows
- Assisting with receiving, preparing and dispatching flooring stock when required
- Taking responsibility for the details and outcomes of the projects you sell ## Who we're looking for We're interested in people with a proven sales background. Flooring experience would be highly regarded, but it isn't essential. Strong candidates may come from flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, building products, interiors, construction, trade sales or other project-based sales environments. What matters more is your track record and how you operate. We're looking for someone who:
- Has demonstrated they can sell, not simply serve customers
- Knows how to follow up consistently and ask for the business
- Builds trust without overpromising simply to get a sale
- Does what they say they're going to do
- Turns up reliably and can be trusted to manage their responsibilities without constant supervision
- Learns quickly and retains product and technical knowledge
- Can manage several quotes and projects at different stages without losing track
- Keeps accurate notes and maintains their pipeline properly
- Communicates confidently and professionally with different types of customers
- Takes responsibility when something needs attention rather than waiting for somebody else to deal with it
- Works well as part of a team and understands that the customer and business come before individual ego
- Wants to become very good at what they do and stay somewhere long enough to build something meaningful You'll also need a current driver's licence, your own reliable vehicle, and to be comfortable handling flooring stock when required.
## The earning opportunity $100K OTE | Uncapped Commission The role combines a solid base salary with performance-based commission. For a capable salesperson performing consistently, $100K OTE is a realistic earning level in this role. If you back yourself as a strong salesperson, there's further upside. Commission is uncapped. Importantly, you'll have genuine opportunities to work with from day one through our existing lead flow, showroom, repeat customers and business relationships. We provide the opportunities, product training and support. What you make of them is up to you. ## The working week We'd rather be clear about this upfront. This is a full-time salaried position. Our standard weekday hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, with Saturday forming a normal part of the working week. Saturday is generally around five to six hours and covers one of our busiest showroom trading periods, including booked customer consultations. Saturday availability is required. Site measures are arranged around the customer and your workload, which means some appointments may need to happen earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. There is also a practical side to working in a flooring business. At times you'll help receive, prepare or dispatch stock. Everyone gets involved when required. If you're looking for a strictly Monday-to-Friday position, don't want to visit customer sites or only want the showroom component of sales, this won't be the right role. ## What matters to us Sales numbers matter. So does how you achieve them. We're building Stepfast for the long term, and the people joining us need to fit the way we want to do business. Honesty matters. Reliability matters. Following through matters. We'd rather lose a sale than promise a customer something we know we can't deliver. We want someone we can trust with a customer, a site measure, a quote and eventually an important account without wondering whether it has been handled properly. We also want someone who understands that a strong sales team works together. There will be individual accountability and individual earning opportunity, but we're not interested in creating a culture where salespeople compete at the expense of customers, colleagues or the business. Perform well, help the team perform well and take ownership of your responsibilities. That's the standard. ## This could be the right move if... You're already good at sales, but you're looking for somewhere your effort is actually noticed. You like the idea of managing the whole customer journey rather than handing someone off as soon as they've signed. You want your earnings to increase with your performance. You want to learn an industry properly rather than bouncing between products every year. You'd rather join a growing sales operation and help shape it than become another salesperson inside a large established department. And you're looking for a business where you could still see yourself several years from now, with more knowledge, more responsibility and a bigger role than when you started. If that's what you're looking for, we'd like to hear from you. ##
How to apply
Apply through SEEK with your resume. Along with your application, we'd like to know briefly: What have you sold, what results are you proud of, and what are you looking for in your next long-term role? We're interested in what you've achieved, but we're equally interested in how you've built your career and what you're looking to build next.
