Anchorleaf is seeking an experienced Senior Network Design Engineer to support the design, validation, and optimisation of complex multi-vendor IP and MPLS network solutions. This is a hands-on contract role focused on converting high-level architectural designs into detailed, production-ready low-level designs across enterprise and telecom network environments.
About the role
You will work closely with network architects to interpret high-level design (HLD) documents and translate them into comprehensive low-level design (LLD) documentation. You will define detailed configurations, IP addressing, routing policies, MPLS design parameters, redundancy approaches, and implementation requirements. You will also validate designs through lab testing, support production readiness, and provide clear documentation and implementation guidance to delivery teams.
Key responsibilities
- Review and interpret HLD documents prepared by network architects.
- Convert high-level IP/MPLS network designs into detailed LLD documentation.
- Develop detailed network configurations, including routing, switching, MPLS, security, and network services requirements.
- Define and document IP addressing plans, VLANs, VRFs, routing policies, redundancy, failover, and interoperability requirements.
- Design and validate MPLS L2/L3 VPN architectures, including PE/CE routing, route targets, route distinguishers, MP-BGP, and LDP.
- Build and configure lab environments to validate design assumptions and production readiness.
- Perform functional, failover, performance, and interoperability testing across multi-vendor environments.
- Validate Cisco and Juniper devices, along with routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, Syslog, and related network services.
- Identify design gaps, assess scalability and resilience risks, and recommend optimisation opportunities.
- Prepare LLDs, test plans, validation reports, MOPs, and implementation documentation.
- Support rollout readiness and provide troubleshooting guidance to implementation teams. Skills and experience
- 5 to 7 years of experience in IP networking, network design, design validation, and lab testing.
- Strong experience converting HLDs into detailed LLDs for enterprise or telecom IP networks.
- Strong experience with BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS L2/L3 VPNs, and IP network design.
- Deep understanding of MPLS technologies, including MPLS L3VPN, L2VPN, VPLS, EVPN, VRFs, MP-BGP, LDP, and MPLS traffic engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing, validating, or troubleshooting MPLS-based enterprise or telecom networks.
- Hands-on expertise with Cisco and Juniper platforms.
- Good understanding of routing, switching, security, and network services, including DHCP, DNS, and Syslog.
- Knowledge of firewall technologies, including Fortinet and Check Point, is highly desirable.
- Exposure to EVPN/VXLAN, Wireshark, TCPdump, IXIA, Spirent, Cisco ACI, NSO, or automation tools such as Python, Ansible, or NETCONF/YANG will be advantageous.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills. Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Telecommunications, Networking, Engineering, or a related discipline is desirable.
- Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS, or JNCIP will be highly regarded. Mandatory requirements
- Candidates must have full Australian work rights.
- Candidates must be currently based in Australia.
- Candidates must be able to work in office or in a hybrid arrangement in Sydney, NSW, in line with project and client requirements.
How to apply
Please apply with your updated resume, highlighting your experience in IP/MPLS network design, converting HLDs to LLDs, MPLS L2/L3 VPNs, Cisco and Juniper environments, lab validation, network testing, firewall technologies, and production rollout support. Only candidates with full Australian work rights and Australian-based availability will be considered. Pay: $750.00 – $850.00 per day Work
