Fairfield Primary School is an inner suburban school in the suburb of Fairfield. The school is part of the Northwest Region and is in the Darebin Yarra network. Our enrolment is approximately 520 students. The school operates with 1 Assistant Principal and 2 Learning Specialists (Literacy and Numeracy) and 2 Leading Teachers (Wellbeing). The school runs 24 classes, 5 specialist classes, Literacy Intervention and the Tutor Learning Initiative. The school SFO Student Family Occupation index is 0.117.
The school places learning and wellbeing at the centre of all that we do. We recognise the impact that high quality learning can have on living a healthy, successful life and we maintain an unwavering focus on learning, teaching and wellbeing. We pride ourselves on students having a strong sense of belonging to the school, and where everyone has high expectations of themselves and of others.
Our school values of `Excellence, Respect, Curiosity, Community¿ work alongside our School Vision to encapsulate the school's philosophy and which capture our commitment to the delivery of a meaningful and engaging curriculum and positive learning interactions.
Our most recent School Review was in 2022, where the School Review Panel acknowledged our high achievement in Literacy and Numeracy, and the collaborative staff culture focused on the school improvement agenda. The importance of building positive relationships between students, staff and families was a key finding of the School Review, reinforced through the school values and class expectations and dedicated time for implementation of initiatives.
Our specialist program is a strength in the school with all students currently having weekly specialist classes in French, Art, Performing Arts, P.
E / Sport and Science. Our Year 5 students participate in an alternative sports program, experiencing wheelchair basketball, taekwondo and table tennis. Our lunchtime activities programs are organised and supported by both students and staff. We have created ongoing opportunities for our students to work with local secondary schools, our orchestra partnership with Thornbury High School is one such example.
We are a two-campus school; our Foundation
- Year 6 and specialist classes take place on Langridge Street Campus, and Year 5
- 6 on Wingrove Street Campus.
