About the Opportunity
As a member of the Irradiations Team at the Centre for Accelerator Science (CAS), the Accelerator Scientist – Radiobiologist will support national and international research and industry users through the delivery and development of CAS’s accelerator-based biological irradiation capability.
You will develop and deliver radiobiology user programs, using ion irradiation to investigate the effects and interactions of radiation with biological matter across applications including fundamental radiobiology, particle therapy, pharma, space radiation research, and more.
You will also be responsible for the operation, maintenance and ongoing development of the CAS biology laboratory, including equipment maintenance, new biological assays and experimental methodologies, and protocols for pre- and post-irradiation sample handling.
Working closely with accelerator scientists,
you will develop expertise in accelerator operation, learning to plan and conduct independently radiobiology irradiations and to integrate biological experimental requirements with accelerator-based irradiation capabilities. You will also contribute to national and international collaborations and the continued growth of the CAS user base.
About You
"I’m looking for a collaborative and supportive team member who is excited about supporting researchers nationally and internationally, while helping us continue to develop and grow the ion irradiation radiobiology capability at CAS. You’ll be someone who is proactive, detail-oriented and user-focused, enjoys improving processes and protocols, and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes. Most importantly, I’m looking for someone who wants to champion our radiobiology capability, engage with our stakeholders and help bring our mission to support great science to the wider research community." - Dr Stefania Peracchi, CAS Irradiations Team Lead
