About The Region:
Finished school and wondering what comes next? The Snowy Monaro is a great place to start your career. You can enjoy the Snowy Mountains, friendly country towns and plenty to do outdoors, including skiing, camping, fishing, four-wheel driving and mountain biking.
With Canberra within easy reach, the region offers the chance to build useful skills, enjoy affordable regional living and become part of a close-knit community.
About the Role:
If you have recently finished Year 10 or Year 12, this could be the first step towards a hands-on career. You will be paid while you learn, work towards a nationally recognised Certificate III qualification and receive training and support from experienced Council employees. No water industry experience is expected—we are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is ready to learn.
- Learn how Council’s water and wastewater systems work.
- Help the team maintain and repair water pipes, water meters, reservoirs and pumping stations.
- Assist with building and repairing water mains and other equipment, following plans, safety rules and industry standards.
- Help maintain wastewater drainage systems.
- Use tools and equipment safely under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Work as part of a team and provide helpful service to the community.
- Attend and complete on-the-job training and study for your Certificate III qualification.
- Follow Council procedures, workplace laws and safe work practices.
About You:
You do not need years of work experience to apply. We are interested in what you bring through school, sport, volunteering, casual work, hobbies or helping in your community.
You will be a valuable fit if you are keen to learn, enjoy practical outdoor work and can be counted on to turn up and give things a go.
- You have completed Year 10 or Year 12 and have a Record of School Achievement (RoSA), or an equivalent qualification.
- You can communicate clearly, listen to instructions and ask questions when you are unsure.
- You are willing to think through problems and have a go at finding solutions.
- You can adjust when plans or priorities change.
- You can organise your time and complete tasks.
- You are reliable, punctual and ready to work as part of a team.
- You are committed to completing the traineeship and Certificate III qualification.
- You hold a current Class C driver licence.
Desirable Criteria:
It is a bonus if you already have a White Card or Level 1 Traffic Controller certification. If you do not, you can still apply.
How to Apply:
Apply through the Apply link and upload your resume and a short cover letter. Your cover letter does not need to be complicated—tell us why this traineeship interests you, why you would like to work for Council and what makes you a reliable person who is ready to learn.
- Application tip: You can use examples from school projects, sport, volunteering, casual jobs, work experience or activities at home. Tell us about times you worked in a team, followed instructions, solved a problem, learned a new skill or showed that people could rely on you.
