1. Minimum Qualifications

- Certificate III/Certificate IV in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Fabrication and Welding)

(MEM30319 or equivalent nationally recognised qualification)

- Completion of a trade apprenticeship in metal fabrication or boiler making.
- High-risk work licence (where applicable, e.g., forklift, overhead crane, dogging).

2. Desired / Additional Qualifications

- Welding certifications in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 9606 or AS 1796 (Welding Certificates 1–9).
- Familiarity with AS/NZS 1554 and AS/NZS 5131 (structural steel fabrication standards).
- Training or competency in reading and interpreting structural/engineering drawings.
- Basic first aid certification (optional but advantageous).
- Familiarity with quality systems and documentation procedures (ITPs, WPS, etc.).
- White Card (Construction Induction Card) – mandatory for working on construction sites.

3. Experience Requirements

- Minimum 3–5 years of proven experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy steel manufacturing.
- Experience in:
- Fabricating and assembling beams, columns, trusses, and platework.
- Working with mild steel, structural sections (RHS, SHS, UB, UC, PFC, etc.).
- Marking out, cutting, drilling, fitting, and welding structural components.
- Reading fabrication drawings and following weld details accurately.
- Using MIG, TIG, flux-cored,



and stick welding processes.
- Operating workshop equipment such as cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and presses.
- Experience in fit-up and tack welding to tight tolerances and QA inspection standards.

4. Skills and Competencies

- Strong understanding of steel fabrication techniques and quality requirements.
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and tolerances.
- Attention to detail with focus on dimensional accuracy and weld quality.
- Problem-solving ability for fabrication challenges and fit-up issues.
- Teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with welders, fitters, and supervisors.
- Commitment to safety, PPE compliance, and safe work practices.

5. Personal Attributes

- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physically fit and capable of manual work, including lifting and welding in varied positions.
- Positive attitude towards continuous improvement and training.

Pay: $36.00 – $42.00 per hour
