About The Biennale of Sydney The Biennale of Sydney is a leading international contemporary art event that commissions and presents innovative, thought-provoking works from Australia and around the world. Established in 1973 during the opening celebrations of the Sydney Opera House, it was the first exhibition of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. The Biennale stands alongside major global art events such as the Venice and São Paulo biennales and documenta, and is one of the longest-running periodic exhibitions worldwide.
Since its inception, it has showcased nearly 1,800 artists from more than 100 countries, holding a significant place on both the national and international cultural stage. The organization is dedicated to fostering artistic experimentation, diverse perspectives, and public engagement with contemporary art.
